POMOCA has been making a name for itself in Japan's backcountry ski scene as a leading brand of ski seals. Its roots date back 150 years, to the 1870s. The Dufour family, who ran hotels, were the first in Switzerland to use skis and hosted numerous ski competitions. In the 1930s, second-generation owner Louis Dufour developed and sold the Gaillard Dufour rescue sled, which could be used with skis and poles to transport injured people. His son, Eric Dufour, developed and began producing removable non-slip skins, which would become the basis for today's POMOCA skins.
