White Vibes is a group of skiers from Toyama, Ishikawa, and northern Gifu prefectures who gather together to ski and record their experiences on video.
It all began before the 2021 season, when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing and the future of the season was uncertain, and Saeki Iwao, the initiator, wanted to liven up the scene. He organized riders and guides from Toyama prefecture and also called on riders from other regions to hold live streaming events.
This season, after the live streaming event was held in December, a project was launched to have people actually get together, hold sessions and record videos.
Currently, the following three videos have been uploaded, set in Toyama, Ishikawa, and Takayama, Gifu.
A skier based in the featured mountain range acts as the host, and by skiing with friends on slopes and mountain ranges that are dear to them, they share the joy of skiing.
Areas like Hakuba and Hokkaido tend to be the focus because of the large mountains and the large number of people who ski there, but the footage from areas such as Toyama, Ishikawa, and Gifu, where the backcountry conditions are less well known, is valuable.
The entire episode is comprised mainly of comments from the skiers and aerial footage of riding. Editing is done by Daichi Motoki, who is also a skier.
"White Vibes" is not limited to the Hokuriku region, but is planning to promote the appeal of local areas all over the country. We will be keeping an eye on future developments.
