Cat is basically run in conjunction with backcountry tours organized by two guide companies. The tour starts from Shizu Onsen at the foot of the mountain to Ubazawa, the base for summer skiing. Mt. Gassan is often associated with
summer, but it is actually winter that allows you to enjoy the benefits of its heavy snowfall. The tour focuses on hiking and running through beech forests with good snow quality, and if conditions are right, you can also extend your trip to Mt. Ubagatake and the main peak of Mt. Gassan.
Enjoy plenty of powder riding on Mt. Gassan in the dead of winter! In January and February, you'll mainly enjoy tree runs on a variety of terrain above the tree line. The weather becomes more stable in March, so on good days you can aim for big slopes and enjoy some spectacular riding. Don't forget that you'll need the same equipment and conditions as for the backcountry tour
