The birthplace of the mogul skier brothers Takuya and Kenro Shimoyama
Naeba Grindelwald was founded in 1967 and has been passed down through three generations. The current third-generation owner is Takuya Shimoyama, who competed in the All Japan Mogul Ski Championships. His younger brother, Kenro, who is two years younger than him, represented Japan at the Salt Lake City Olympics. This means that Grindelwald is run by the parents of Olympic athletes.
Conveniently located just 500 meters from Naeba's main slopes, the lodge can accommodate 80 people, which is quite large for a lodge. Apparently, many group training camps are held there. The lodge also has a large hall that can be used as a billiards hall and table tennis court in the winter.
The owner, who has the motto of "never cutting corners in anything," works hard on preparing meals and cleaning the rooms.
For example, dinner is a delicious and filling menu that includes a meat-based main dish, soup made with plenty of seasonal ingredients, freshly cooked Uonuma Koshihikari rice, and a daily homemade dessert, with each dish carefully prepared.

Thoughtful rooms
There are both Western-style and Japanese-style rooms available. They are thoroughly cleaned and maintained, and you wouldn't even notice they're a little older. They're a relaxing and comfortable space

Homemade dishes that warm the body and soul
Another big attraction of Grindelwald is the food, which is lovingly made by the third generation owner and the mother in the kitchen. The homemade ham is especially popular. Other dishes include piping hot soup, salads full of fresh vegetables, and freshly cooked Koshihikari rice from Uonuma... As you can see, the daily sweets look delicious too!
*The menu may change depending on the availability of ingredients.
There are various arrangements available, such as a one-night stay with two meals included or a stay-before-dinner plan, so you can enjoy these delicious meals.
"Excellent" and "Recommended!"
The best thing about Grindelwald is gazing out the dining room's large windows at the snow-covered world on a morning when it is gently falling. The beauty of this scene is truly soothing. Enjoy a relaxing moment with a cup of aromatic coffee

Profile

Third-generation owner
Takuya Shimoyama
Born and raised in Naeba, he is the third generation of a family. He has been familiar with skiing since he was a child. He discovered the joy of moguls and, together with his younger brother Kenro (who is two years younger than him and represented Japan in the moguls at the Salt Lake City Olympics), he created his own courses and practiced diligently. He was a member of the first class of the JWSC ski department and competed in the All Japan Moguls Championships. Lately, he spends his time skiing in the mountains behind his house, hiking, and having bonfires
