What do you get if you make a hometown tax donation?
"Furusato nozei" (hometown tax) - I'm sure many of you have heard of it, but have you used it? Furusato nozei is a system that allows you to donate to local governments that you want to support
When you make a hometown tax donation, any portion of your donation over 2,000 yen is generally deducted from your income tax and resident tax (subject to a certain limit), and once you go through the necessary procedures, your final actual out-of-pocket expenses will be just 2,000 yen. Furthermore, you can receive local specialties or travel vouchers as "thank you" gifts from the local government in return for your donation, making it a very lucky and wonderful system
