Around 1990, at the beginning of the Heisei era, the ski boom had matured and the bubble economy was in full swing. Young people at the time would drive their cars to ski resorts and head to the snowy mountains, listening to music on original cassette tapes.
Those young people are now in their 50s and 60s, and the Anokoro culture has become a new trend among young people. Things like loose socks, arm warmers, and wired earphones have actually brought a sense of freshness to the trend. It's not just in fashion; snow brands like Oakley, Roxy, and The North Face are also releasing 80s and 90s revival wear, and the excitement of Heisei retro can be felt everywhere.
An inspiring event for people from that fashionable and lively era, as well as the young people of today, "ISHIUCHIMARUYAMA RETRO SNOW STYLE" was held on March 11th and 12th
This event was held to bring back the passion for skiing that was popular all over Japan, and to allow young people to experience the charm of snowy mountains, including skiing and snowboarding
The main event was a DJ event playing tunes from the '90s, with guest DJs including DJ KOO, Yukemuri DJs, and DJ SARASA. Also participating were artists like Heisei retro collector Melo Yamashita and influencer Lilly.
The event took place over two days, with around 7,000 snowboarders enjoying Ishiuchi Maruyama to the classic tunes of the era in the mid-March spring weather.
There were two DJ booths at the base of the ski resort and one at the end of Ishiuchi Maruyama's famous combination lift, the Sunrise Express Lift. From the DJ booth at the end of the Sunrise Express Lift, you could enjoy music while overlooking the Uonuma Plain
On the second day, TRF's DJ and leader, DJ KOO, appeared. Although he has been appearing on TV and radio a lot recently, on this day many fans flocked to see him perform as a DJ, his main job
Skiers and snowboarders of all ages and genders were excited by the music, from TRF hits such as EZ DO DONCE and BOY MEETS GIRL to popular 90s hits by Ayumi Hamasaki and Ami Suzuki, bringing the snowy mountains together
ISHIUCHIMARUYAMA RETRO SNOW STYLE was a great success, an event that everyone could enjoy. It was an event that showed the potential for the snow industry to continue to grow, as a way to combine the old with the new
