Aya Sato is from Tsunan Town, Niigata Prefecture. She started snowboarding at the age of three. She frequented Ishiuchi Maruyama from an early age and focused on freestyle, earning her professional halfpipe qualification at the age of 13. She gained attention in halfpipe and slopestyle contests, and in recent years has shifted her focus to freeride, winning the JAPAN FREERIDE OPEN four times in a row

Originally from Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, she began alpine skiing at Ishiuchi Maruyama at the age of two under the guidance of her father, and switched to halfpipe in 2011. She has achieved brilliant results, including a bronze medal at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, two overall titles at the World Cup, and a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships. After retiring from halfpipe competition in 2019, she switched to freeride. She is now a mother of one child and juggles the two responsibilities of professional skiing and raising a child
