The first year of BOA ski boots! |2023-24 season hot topics

In the 2023-24 season, this topic will be the center of attention. K2, ATOMIC, SALOMON, and FISCHER have released many models with the "BOA Fit System" installed at the 1st and 2nd buckle positions of alpine boots. Here, let's check again about the new technology that we want to hold down this year.

What is the "BOA Fit System"?

The feature of the "BOA Fit System" is the fit that wraps around you. In the conventional buckle type, there was a feeling of being pulled because the buckle was hooked on the fastener. It was difficult for the boots and feet to fit properly, and the force tended to disperse.

With the "BOA Fit System", the shoe is tightened with wire laces, so it gradually creates a fit that fits your feet. The comfort that cannot be obtained with the conventional buckle type is greatly improved. In terms of performance, research has shown that better edge-to-edge control is achieved by keeping the heel in the heel of the boot.

The "BOA Fit System" is a new system for alpine boots that has been developed by utilizing the knowledge and experience that has been installed in various sports shoes such as snowboard boots and golf shoes. Over the years, it was fully unveiled.

One of the features of BOA-equipped alpine boots is the wire (lace). A newly developed lace called SS3, one lace is made by twisting 109 fine wires together. With a diameter of 1.7 mm, it is designed to be thicker than those used in snowboard boots. It has a tensile strength of up to 245kg to withstand the speed and force of skiing without being easily cut by the edge of a ski.

Newly developed "H+i1" dial

The dial that adjusts the fit uses the "H + i1" model. When the dial is pushed in vertically and turned, it tightens one click at a time, and when the boot is removed, it is released at once when pulled up. So far, it is the same as the conventional BOA, but "H + i1" can be loosened by 1 click. This creates a tight fit.

What worries me is that the BOA dial may come off during a violent crash. If it breaks and you can't tighten it... there is a worry, but don't worry. When subjected to extreme impact, the dial comes off while still connected to the wire. The dial itself is fixed with a nail and a spring, so if you set it to its original position and push it in, it snaps into place. After that, you can perform actions such as loosening and tightening the wire with the dial as before.

"BOA lifetime warranty system" that allows you to replace parts free of charge even if BOA breaks

One of the features of the "BOA Fit System" is that it comes with a warranty system only for the product life of alpine boots. In the unlikely event that the dial or lace is damaged, you can order a free repair kit from the BOA official website and repair it yourself. If there are parts you want at the handling shop, you can exchange them. (Additional installation fees may be incurred. For details, see each shop.)

BOA equipped model lineup
