10/6 Today, snowfall & snowfall at Daisetsuzan Sounkyo Kurodake Ropeway. Winter scenery all around!

10/6 (Tuesday) Towards the early morning of this day, it snowed at Daisetsuzan Sounkyo and Kurodake Ropeway in Hokkaido, turning the area completely white. It turned out to be a winter scene like the picture (temperature 0°C).

After hearing this news on Facebook, the STEEP editorial department immediately made a phone call to Kurodake Ropeway. We interviewed Mr. Kajita, who is in charge of public relations.

"It's the second time it snowed this fall! It feels a lot colder."

The photo was taken around 7am.
The temperature was quite cold at 0 degrees Celsius, and the snow piled up lightly, and the staff were forced to clear the snow. After that, when the sun came out and hit the sun, it melted around 10 o'clock and returned to the autumn scenery until the day before. At 13:00, the temperature was 8℃ at the foot of the ropeway, and 3℃ at the point where the ropeway got off.

Kurodake is covered with snow for the second time this autumn. On September 26, Daisetsuzan and Asahidake also had their first snow cap, but on that day, it was snowing near the summit of Mt. Kurodake as well, but due to strong winds, it was covered with gas, so no official observations were made. At least.

Currently, Mt. Kurodake is in the autumn foliage season. This photo was taken last weekend from the ropeway. The trees are beautifully colored in autumn. The autumn foliage will soon reach its peak near the foot of Sounkyo. The Go To Travel Campaign is also a tailwind, and it is said that the number of domestic tourists has increased this fall, and it is lively.

Kurodake Ski Resort in winter is very popular with Hokkaido nature fans and inbound tourists

Did you know that the Daisetsuzan Sounkyo-Kurodake Ropeway in Daisetsuzan National Park in Hokkaido becomes the Kurodake ski resort during the snow season?
The number of courses is simple with only 2, but you can enjoy the outstanding snow quality unique to the altitude of 1,520m and the long course with the longest running distance of 1200m. Above all, you can enjoy the wild nature of Mt. Daisetsu, so it is a popular ski resort that is very crowded with Hokkaido fans from Honshu and inbound foreigners every year.

The opening schedule for the 2020-21 season is Saturday, November 14th!

Lastly, I asked him about his plans for this season and how he was doing last season.
“Normally, ski resorts open in mid-November. It was a little disappointing that we had to close on May 1 due to the new coronavirus. What will happen this season? If the snow goes well, we plan to open on Saturday, November 14."

November 14th is just around the corner. The happy snow news made me realize that the season is finally approaching!
