This year it will be held in banked slalom! |“SBM BANKED+” Saturday, March 30, 2024 @ Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort

SNOWBOARD MASTERS (SBM) is a contest to determine Japan's best snowboarder. This year, unlike previous years, we will be holding a banked slalom event called "SBM BANKED+." The venue is Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort "Yamabiko B Course". Entry conditions are 18 years or older, and anyone with a resident card in Japan can enter.

Normally, SBM competes based on two disciplines: ``Freeride Performance,'' in which runners perform using various terrain on the course, and ``Obstacle Slalom,'' in which they compete for time while clearing various terrain. However, due to this season's rising temperatures, snowfall, and melting snow, it was determined that it would not be possible to create a course that would perform well. This resulted in the cancellation of the event as usual.

What exactly is banked slalom?

Banked slalom is a competition in which runners compete for time by clearing corners while taking advantage of the banks (slopes) on the course. Simply skiing the shortest distance may actually result in a loss of time, so the key to shortening time is how to utilize the bank to accelerate. It can be enjoyed by both adults and children, and in recent years the number of banked slalom courses has been increasing at ski resorts around the country.
