'Disruption', which appeared in the 21st season, has made great progress
Feel the power from the snow surface and accelerate, dropping the skis toward the fall line. The category "DISURUPTION" for those who love speed and carving has organized the lineup for the 2022 season.
The 2021 season of "speed perfomrance" that focuses on turn speed and "PISTE perfomrance" that enjoys turns on all mountains have been combined into one as "DISURUPTION". Among them, the lineup is divided into two: "DISURUPTION", which seeks harder and faster gliding performance, and "DISURUPTION ALLIANCE", which mainly matches women's leg strength and technique. This area follows the other categories and appearance of K2.
Review of lineup and concept
You can choose from a total of 16 models, 9 "DISURUPTION" models and 7 "DISURUPTION ALLIANCE" models, according to your physique, skiing skills, and desired orientation.
The details of each model have not changed much since the 2021 season, and as before, “Ti” stands for titanium, “C” for carbon, “M” for medium turn, and “S” for short turn. Looking at each model along this name, the purpose is very clear.
In addition to Mti, Sti, and SC as conventional high-end models, "DISURUPTION" will join the ranks of the high-end Ti² in the 2022 season. Other than that, 82Ti, 78Ti, 78C, 76X, and 76 remain unchanged from the 2021 season. "DISURUPTION ALLIANCE" is a lineup of 81Ti, 78C, 76C, 76, 75 in MTi and SC.
All K2 carving skis have a rocker mechanism. "DISURUPTION" is a rocker + camber shape equipped with <SPEED ROCKER>, which has a low nose and tail rocker, in almost all models. It brings stability to the operability that is easy to handle.
Ti² newly added to the lineup
The highlight of the 2022 season is the newly added "DISURUPTION Ti²". This model, which is the top of the category, is characterized by the fact that titanium is incorporated twice as much as the regular model, as the name suggests.
In the first place, the "DISURUPTION" series has three functions that bring out sharp turns.
One is DMD (DARK MATTER DAMPING). Helps the edge to grip the snow surface at the start of the turn. A polymer vibration absorber is placed near the contact edge to absorb high frequency vibrations that the titanium misses as it enters the turn.
The second is POWERWALL. Oversized ABS sidewalls are laminated into the wood core in the center of the ski, applying force directly to the edges and flexing the ski.
The third is I-BEAM. Titanium is placed along the center of the ski from nose to tail to improve stability and precision in turns.
"DISURUPTION Ti²" doubles the amount of titanium, which is the third function, to bring about faster and more stable sliding than ever before. However, it is undeniable that the increasing amount of titanium has made it a ski of choice for riders.
What is the difference from MTi? Hear impressions from Taiga Tomii, GS winner of the All Japan Alpine Championships
Taiga Tomii, an alpine skier from Nozawa Onsen, was riding this model during the season. He is a top-class skier who won the Alpine All Japan Championship men's GS held at Akan Lakeside Ski Resort Utara this winter. What impression does he have of the "DISURUPTIONTi²" that he uses between races?
The “MTi” that I rode in the 2021 season gave me the impression that it flexed well.
The whole ski is clean and the edge cuts well in the first half of the turn. The "Ti²" that I rode in the 2022 season bites the snow and turns better than the "MTi".
However, there is hardness compared to "MTi". There are two pieces of metal in the ski center, so if you speed up, you need power to keep it down. Instead, the sense of stability when speeding up is outstanding. The feeling is similar to the GS skis that I'm good at. The image is that the whole ski becomes beautiful by putting weight such as self weight and external force firmly on the ski.
I think that by combining hard skis with hard boots, you can transmit power more directly. I skied on the Giant at Shiga Kogen between races, and it didn't waver even on the practice race track.
With the "MTi", I was a little worried about the top and tail blurring, probably because it flexed well. In that respect, I didn't feel that kind of feeling with "Ti²". With performance comparable to GS skis, expert skiers and racers will enjoy skiing to the fullest when riding between practices.
