If you drive for 1 hour from Sapporo, you can find "JAPOW"

Although Sapporo, the center of Hokkaido, is a large city with a population of over 1 million people, it is a rare place in the world where the monthly snowfall from December to March exceeds 1 meter.

This area has a cold climate and the humid air brought in from the Sea of Japan collides with the mountain surface, resulting in large amounts of snowfall, especially around the Akaigawa River. There are many large ski resorts within an hour's drive from Sapporo, such as Sapporo Kokusai, Teine, Kiroro, and Rusutsu. Due to its easy access and high quality snow, many skiers who come from Honshu spend the day skiing in the central Hokkaido area.

Most of the ski resorts start their season from late November to mid-December, and are open from the end of March to the end of April. One of the charms of this area is that you can ski while looking at the sea, and enjoy Hokkaido's seafood to your heart's content.

where you can taste the finest powder on a day trip from Sapporo
| KIRORO SNOW WORLD

It's close to Sapporo city, so you can easily take a day trip even if you stay in Sapporo.

The appeal of Kiroro, which attracts many riders, is its overwhelming amount of snowfall, interesting natural terrain, and vast tree run field. During the high season, monthly snowfall can exceed 4 meters, and it snows almost every night, causing the course conditions to reset. Kiroro has five vast tree run areas open to the public where you can enter and ski through the entrance located within the ski resort management area. The variety is truly diverse, with beautiful broad-leaved forests, varied natural terrain, deep powder spots, and courses full of exploration. There are many courses that can be rotated efficiently using lifts, making it a must-see for powder and tree riding lovers. However, please note that this is a completely self-responsible area and rescue costs will be incurred, so please be aware of this.

Because the temperature is consistently low, there are many reasons for its popularity, such as the excellent conditions that maintain high-quality powder from the beginning of the season.

Kokusai Ski Resort with plenty of snow in the suburbs of Sapporo

You can also enjoy the tree run at Sapporo International

Despite being conveniently located about 90 minutes by car from Sapporo city, Sapporo Kokusai is known for its quantity and quality of snow. Many people come to Sapporo Kokusai not only because of its convenient access, but also because they are fascinated by the high quality of the mountains. It is a very tough ski resort that opens earlier than anywhere else in Japan, accumulates close to 3 meters of snow during the high season, and can be skied for more than six months from November to May.

The highlight of Sapporo Kokusai is the downhill course with a maximum gradient of 30 degrees. You can use one gondola to rotate around this course, so it's also attractive that you can earn a lot of skiing. Since the downhill course is an uncompacted snow course, the vine slope extends for about 2.2km from the top to the bottom, and the feeling of slipping is overwhelming. Each course is also characterized by its long distance. Of course, after it snows, you can enjoy long powder riding, and when it doesn't snow, you can enjoy high-speed carving rides on beautiful grooming tracks.

Japan|SAPPORO TEINE

About 40 minutes by car from the center of Sapporo city, the access is excellent. You can also expect powder riding overlooking the city of Sapporo and Ishikari Bay from the summit with an altitude of over 1,000m. Sapporo Teine is also attractive for its sparsely forested Nature Zone. The "Kitakabe Course", which has trained many famous skiers such as Daisuke Sasaki and Tsuyoshi Kodama a maximum gradient of 36 degrees and a non-compacted snow slope. The snow on top speed is the best.

Furthermore, advanced riders aim for Teine, the vast backcountry that spreads out beyond the gate installed at the top of the mountain. The quality of the snow and the fun of the terrain are unmatched. With easy lift access, you can glide over powdery faces and finally return to the ski area parking lot. Teine has set up a "Teine Gate" near the summit, and takes a stance to watch over skiing beyond the ski area management area on the premise of self-responsibility.

, a paradise of natural topography and trees in the back of a huge resort
|RUSUTSU RESORT

There is also Rusutsu on the other side of Mt. Yotei in Southern Hokkaido. Rusutsu has many fans because of its size, snow quality, and varied topography. The fun also powers up the charm of Donan. Consisting of three mountains, West Mt., East Mt., and Mt. Isola, the 37 courses are actually 42km in total, making it one of Japan's leading mega-sized courses.

Because Mt. Yotei blocks the moisture that flows in from the Sea of Japan, the snow is drier than the mountains in the Niseko area. Due to intermittent snowfall from December to February, the face is reset with fresh snow almost every day. In addition, Mt. Isola and East Mt. have slopes facing north, so they are less exposed to the sun and maintain good snow conditions. Under these favorable conditions, Rusutsu is the only place where you can fully enjoy tree runs in vast forests that take advantage of the richness of the natural topography.

The Heavenly Course located at the back of Mt. Isola is especially popular with freeriders. The slippery southeast-facing course has an average slope of 20 to 25 degrees and is shaped like a stream, making wall riding fun even for non-experts. It's a place where you can slide through the trees and play in the ups and downs with plenty of natural items.

From the top of the mountain, you can get a clear view of the city of Otaru, Otaru Port, Ishikari Bay, and on clear days, the Shokanbetsu mountain range. Here, we recommend the challenging dynamic course with a maximum gradient of 42 degrees. You can enjoy riding like jumping into the city of Otaru. Night skiing is also good when it snows.

[Dohoku / 26 ski resorts]
backcountry sanctuary

I want to attack carefully based on Asahikawa

The greatest attraction is the airy dry powder produced by Hokkaido's inland climate. During the high season, temperatures often drop below minus 30 degrees Celsius, making the ski resorts extremely cold. Also, there are days when it closes out due to snowstorms.

Recently, an increasing number of people are using flights to Asahikawa Airport to ski around the area based in Asahikawa. In the surrounding area, there are relatively large ski resorts such as Furano Ski Resort and Kamui Ski Links where you can enjoy compacted snow and powder snow.

Daisetsuzan Asahidake and Tokachidake areas, which are easy to approach, are the main fields for the backcountry. With the overwhelming nature and stable deep powder, the number of overseas powder hunters who stay for long periods of time and ski around the area is increasing.

Furano Ski Resort| FURANO

Furano Ski Resort is divided into two zones, Kitanomine and Furano, and you can enjoy powder snow here and there. The attractiveness of the powder has attracted the attention of overseas investors and inbound guests, and the number of condominium properties is steadily increasing. Rent a car and stay in Furano, and depending on the weather and snow conditions, ski around the resorts around Furano and the backcountry on the Hokkaido powder belt.

An example of a popular course is the Panorama C Course located on the top of the Furano Zone. The 700m slope is full of undulations, and you can use the lift next to the course to ski efficiently. It is a course that is delicious twice because the scenery is good during the ride. Also, don't forget the long cruise from the top of the mountain at an altitude of 1,074m.

KAMUI SKI LINKS , the best local ski resort in Japan, is the authentic Kamui Ski Links for experts

Kamui has plenty of non-compressed snow areas, great satisfaction for powder lovers

The iconic Kamui is a box-shaped four-seater gondola, which is rare these days. It is said that Kamui's uncompacted snow courses make up about 30% of the entire ski resort, so there is plenty of skiing for powder lovers. In addition to the uncompacted snow at the top of the mountain, we recommend the uncompacted snow forest course and deep powder course on the north slope. The full-fledged course, which includes not only tree runs but also just the right amount of mash, is a favorite among connoisseurs. It's perfect for skiers who are discerning about the terrain.

Kamuy automatic lift ticket issuing machines have been installed at hotels located in the city center (OMO7 Asahikawa, Art Hotel Asahikawa, Hotel Wing Asahikawa Ekimae). Now you can get lift tickets by purchasing them in advance online and holding the QR code over the automatic ticketing machine, making it even more convenient to ride the lifts and gondolas at ski resorts without having to wait in line at the ticket office!

Asahidake with an altitude of 2,291m, the icon of the Dohoku area

Only one ropeway.

There are 2 lines with compacted snow for convenience, but other than that, the natural terrain is magnificent. It's just wild with a ropeway on the mountain. The area near the summit is an alpine area with few forests. It's easy to get lost if you don't know the topography and geography, so be careful. Especially for Asahidake beginners and those new to powder, it is safe and efficient to use the guide service. The natural environment is harsh with many snowstorms during the high season, but the fact that you can aim for the finest powder even in the spring is a major reason why it is so popular with core skiers and snowboarders.

[Donan 17 ski resorts] The
strongest area with Niseko

provided by BRAVOSKI

Donan has the strongest lineup in Hokkaido

The southern area of Donan, home to Niseko, the sacred place that made Japau known to the world. It is a large area that includes the Hakodate district, the gateway to Hokkaido facing Honshu.

, the birthplace of the world-famous “JAPOW”
| Niseko United

Riding with a view of Niseko's iconic Mt Yotei

Niseko has its roots, where famous film makers flock to special effects, and the wonders of Japanese powder have become known to the world. Even if you look around Hokkaido, there aren't many places where you can ski on fine powder that resets every day as easily as here.

"Niseko is the BEST" is a big reason why the world is fascinated by the snow conditions where the north wind blowing from the Sea of Japan crosses Annupuri at an altitude of 1,308m and turns into dry snow, which accumulates a large amount of dry powder. If the feeling of floating on the snow as you step on the board and the overhead powder spray intoxicate you every day, it's only natural that you'll fall in love with Niseko.

Niseko United is a collection of five ski resorts, including Hanazono, Grand Hirafu, Village, Annupuri and Moiwa, where four major ski resorts are connected at the top.

This big sense of scale is the strongest in Japan. Niseko's position is unshakable due to its abundant natural terrain, high reset rate, and large elevation difference. Furthermore, once the gate is opened, you can easily slide into the backcountry area using a lift or gondola, making it an ideal environment for backcountry-minded skiers and snowboarders. There are many backcountry guide service companies in Niseko.

all-mighty Niseko Hanazono resort where you can enjoy everything from powder to park
|NISEKO HANAZONO

"Niseko Hanazono Resort" is located in the easternmost part of the Niseko area. Easy to access from Hirafu, many skiers return to the slopes from the backcountry area.

There is also a park at the bottom that can be accessed using a high-speed lift, and there is also a tube park in front of the ``HANAZONO Resort Center.''

The selling point is the variety of courses and the versatility of everything from powder to park. Night game operations are also popular. The ``HANAZONO Symphony Gondola'' transports 1,589m from the bottom to the summit station in just 5 minutes and 30 seconds. It seats 10 people and is comfortable with individual genuine leather seats. The main lift, HANAZONO Quad Lift No. 1, seats six people with genuine leather seats that are heated and extremely comfortable.

NISEKO MOUNTAIN RESORT Grand HIRAFU Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU is the No. 1 area for skiing with a variety of course designs

Located in the center of Niseko, there is a wide variety of courses, from courses perfect for powder runs to grooming (compacted snow) courses where you can enjoy high-speed turns. All courses are designed with a lot of slopes and undulations, so even advanced skiers will find plenty of slickness. The variety of courses that you can ski all day without getting bored is one of the best in Niseko and boasts high popularity.

Another face of Grand Hirafu is the night game. It is surprising that the course area and variations are the largest in Japan. As the temperature drops from the daytime, the snow quality becomes even drier, and the board runs! Grand Hirafu, where you can get drunk with JAPOW until the night, further enhances the charm of Niseko.

Ideal for beginners and intermediate powder skiers who want to get better
| NISEKO VILLAGE SKI RESORT

View of the summit area from inside the Niseko Village gondola

Niseko Village has the most courses in Niseko United. With 3 gondolas and 30 courses, mobility and course variation are outstanding. The lower part of the resort has relatively gentle slopes, so it's a perfect area for intermediate skiers who want to enjoy Niseko powder but have just switched to fat skiing and are not yet confident in steep and deep powder.

The upper part has a lineup of attractive courses such as steep slopes for advanced skiers, non-compressed snow courses, and forest courses that weave through virgin forests. The feature of Niseko Village is that all of these courses are long and full of ups and downs and variations. A course where you can ski from the forest course to the front of the resort hotel at once. The unique course design makes it easy to get lost, and is popular with foreigners as well.

A beautiful forest rich in natural topography spreads beside the slope course, making it truly a natural park. Moiwa's "back bowl" is a very famous powder spot.

Because it is far from the center of Niseko Village, Moiwa's presence is unique even in Niseko. Surrounded by a quiet and peaceful forest, this "Niseko hideout" attracts an overwhelming number of repeaters.

If you want to have fun in total

Super dry powder with not much snowfall

One of the coldest areas in Hokkaido. Most of the snow clouds that develop on the Sea of Japan side fall before reaching eastern Hokkaido, so the amount of snowfall is not that great. However, due to the inland climate, the snow is super dry powder and light enough to be blown away by the wind. I don't want to miss the occasional south coast low pressure.

Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU is like a treasure chest filled with all kinds of snow activities.

Hoshino Resort Tomamu can be said to be the leader of the eastern Hokkaido area.

There are a total of 29 courses consisting of two mountains, "Tomamu Mountain" that spreads out on Mt. Tomamu with an altitude of 1,239m and "Tower Mountain" on the east side. From Asia's largest family slopes to non-compressed snow courses for advanced skiers who like powder and courses where you can enjoy tree runs, there are many variations. There are many options to enjoy the dry powder unique to the inland frigid regions, such as CAT tours operated by resorts and programs to enjoy backcountry skiing with lift access. At Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, under the slogan, "Declaration of Liberation of the Winter Mountains," skiers can ski freely in the untouched nature of Hokkaido, and the side country course is open to advanced skiers only. You can enjoy a tree run with rich ups and downs in a beautiful forest zone. A hooded quad lift is used and the conditions for repeated skiing are in place.

A superb uncompacted snow course on the northern slope
Sahoro Resort|SAHORO RESORT

Sahoro is a gondola that connects the bottom and the top, and the mobility is outstanding.

Tokachi Sahoro Resort, located almost in the center of Hokkaido, is easily accessible from the three gateways of Asahikawa, Obihiro, and New Chitose Airport, as well as sightseeing, making it easy to plan a tour route.

This central Hokkaido area has mountainous areas such as the Daisetsu Mountain Range and the Hidaka Mountain Range, so there are vast backcountry fields in the surrounding area. In recent years, the style of staying at Sahoro Resort and freely skiing the powder and backcountry fields of the Tokachi area, commonly known as the ``Hokkaido Powder Belt,'' has become popular in recent years. Sahoro is surprising because 50% of the entire resort has uncompacted snow. All five courses on the north slope have uncompacted snow. The natural terrain remains intact, making it perfect for free runs. However, it is not as crowded as the Niseko or Sapporo areas, so it is actually a special hidden spot. The high-speed quad lift has a hood, so it's comfortable even in a blizzard.

Gaining high support from enthusiasts

Sorachi area dotted with local ski resorts

The Sorachi area is sandwiched between central Hokkaido and northern Hokkaido. There are few resort ski resorts that attract many skiers from overseas, and there are many small-scale ski resorts rooted in the local area. Because there are few high-altitude mountains, the amount of snowfall is not large, but depending on the year, it may bring a large amount of snowfall due to temperature and cloud cover. It is supported by enthusiasts who want to avoid standard ski resorts.
