Gassan (Yamagata Prefecture)
The mountainous area of Bandai-Asahi National Park, where you can see a magnificent panorama of virgin beech trees over 100 years old, is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan. Gassan Ski Resort, which is famous for the longest summer skiing in Japan, is certainly convenient, but it is also good to go into the backcountry of Gassan to appreciate the great nature more deeply.
◆ Mt. Gassan and North Gassan Tour (Level D) |IDEHA
This course can be enjoyed only during this season. After about 2 hours and 30 minutes of hiking, it's an endless slide all the way to Kitatsuki Sanso. The real thrill of Mt. Gassan is that it feels like you're sliding all over the mountain, and the scale of the experience is something you don't often get to experience. Since I have already turned my car around Kitatsuki Sanso, I can return to the Ubagawa parking lot smoothly on my way home.

◆ Yudonoyama Ski Resort Course Tour (Level CD) |IDEHA
This course is attractive because it goes from Shitomori over a thin ridge and then slides endlessly down the ridge to the big burn at the end. If the scale is so large that you can't feel the slope, you'll have a hard time reaching the bottom no matter how long you slide. From there, the course is mostly flat and may not be suitable for snowboarders. The last course is an interesting one with lots of variety, skiing through Mt. Yudono Ski Resort.
