[Selected by a gel food professional] 8 recommended sweets found at Japan's largest snow resort "Shiga Kogen" + α

Hello!
This is Yuki Espe! We are working on taking pictures and disseminating local information in snowy mountains all over Japan!

Shiga Kogen is the place where I have eaten the most gele food so far. It is one of the largest ski resorts in Japan with an area of 2,307m and a maximum altitude of 2,307m, making it one of Japan's top-class ski resorts, but there are also over 40 shops offering ski meals, making it one of the best ski resorts in Japan that I have been to. It will be a number.

Even if you visit two restaurants every Saturday and Sunday, you won't be able to visit all of them in one season! It is a ski resort that is suitable for skiing, not eating while walking.

I always carry a camera on my back and go on a food tour (in front of Shiga Ikoisou, Shiga Kogen)

Thoughts from a gele food professional! What is the food situation in Shiga Kogen?

In the first place, I believe that the reason why there are so many restaurants in Shiga Kogen that serve gele meals is due to a combination of the following conditions.

  1. Because it is so large, it is necessary to provide lunch (restrooms and ticket sales) in each area.
  2. Because it is far from the city and there are many overnight guests, it is necessary to eat locally.
  3. There are many inns near the slopes that can provide lunch.

There is also Gele Shoku, which is run by a lift operating company, but there are many other shops, and they are becoming popular. Because the atmosphere, features, and menu vary greatly, each restaurant has its own core of fans.

Regarding the sweets situation in Shiga Kogen, due to the characteristics mentioned above, the users are easily spread out, and there are no shops that offer crepes on the way home like you can find at other ski resorts. Instead, many shops have equipment (refrigerated showcases, etc.) that allow them to serve desserts.

Many stores display cakes in refrigerated showcases (at Chiu Hotel)

Looking at the users, many of them eat sweets as an additional item on the main menu, which shows that they satisfy their sweet cravings (?) here. As a result, many restaurants now offer not only lunch but also sweets, allowing customers to choose from a variety of distinctive menus.

This time I will introduce some sweets that I recommend!

Hotel Grand Phoenix Okushiga “Basque Cheesecake”

Shiga Kogen Hotel Grand Phoenix Okushiga is located in the Okushiga Kogen area.

The slope food here is “La Stella Alpina (Italian)” which has Milanese-style lasagna that I introduced in Matsuko's Unknown World (appeared on “Slope Resort World” aired on January 24, 2023), and “La Stella Alpina (Italian)” which has ankake yakisoba. There are three restaurants: the delicious "Bonbi" (Japanese/Chinese food), and the lounge and bar "Largo" that we will be introducing this time.

Stately exterior (Hotel Grand Phoenix Okushiga)

The lounge has a fireplace and comfortable sofa seats, making it a space where you can relax forever. I usually go to the lounge after eating Italian or Chinese food, but if I'm inadvertent, it's after 3pm and I often give up on skating.

The recommended sweet here is the "Premium Basque Cheesecake Set" which is available for a limited time and in limited quantities. It is basically provided on weekends during the ski season.

You may be surprised to see that the surface is black and charred, but the inside is not as cooked as a typical cheesecake, so you can enjoy the rich cream cheese flavor. We recommend having it alternately with the roasted apple that comes with it and tea.

Ermine dance (blend herbal tea, Basque cheesecake set + 200 yen drink change)
Butter cake (1,200 yen, also recommended)

Please come and enjoy this ski resort that will steal your time.

Hotel Berg “Strawberry Tart”

Hotel Berg is located on the slopes of Giant Ski Resort, one of the most difficult areas in Shiga Kogen. This cafe is a popular shop in the Shiga Kogen central area and offers a variety of cakes.

Appearance with a calm atmosphere

This recommended sweet is “Strawberry Tart”!

There is no line up in the refrigerated showcase, so you will have to check directly with the store staff to see if they have any left. Basically, it is only available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Strawberry tart (1 piece 800 yen, 1 whole 6,400 yen)

You can get coffee or tea as a set for an additional 300 yen.

yeah? There are other cakes as well. Berg's cakes are always delicious, so when I want to relax, I order more than one!

If your heart is broken by the Giant Wall, please come here to recover.

Hotel Takimoto "Wild vegetables and cheese pound cake vegetable parfait butterbur sweets"

Hotel Takimoto is located at the foot of Takamagahara Mammoth Ski Resort in the Shiga Kogen Central Area. It's located in a slightly secluded area, so if you don't know where it is, you won't notice it. The menu will be renewed from 2024. We now offer the chef's special menu.

The recommended sweets here are "Wild Vegetables and Cheese Pound Cake Vegetable Parfait, Fukinoto Sweets". The name is long!

It uses a lot of ingredients that don't usually come in for sweetness (such as fukinoto!?), but it's made with a perfect balance and is both fresh and delicious. The colors and presentation are good, so it looks great.

Crepe/Cafe Yukiusagi "Espe Special"

Yukiusagi is a crepe cafe located at Ichinose Family Ski Resort in the central Shiga Kogen area. This is the only crepe shop in Shiga Kogen.

Silver Shiga Tennant It is a blessing that the old store name remains.
Crepe batter is not made ahead of time and baked after ordering. The holes are a mistake during the trial production.

The recommended sweets here are the "Espe Special".

Yukiusagi-san is a little larger than regular crepes (note: the size feels like it weighs 120 kg), but it's not enough. During non-busy times, you can customize the crepe toppings, so the Espe Special is made to the maximum size that can be wrapped in dough.

I often hear stories like ``It's something you can eat without dinner'' or ``It was eaten by a family of four,'' but this is a snack♪

The inside of the dough is filled with strawberries and bananas according to the owner's whim, making it a luxury item, but you can enjoy it at a very reasonable price. Since it takes time to make, please avoid when you are busy and order the "Espe Special".

Espe Special (price is about 2 crepes)

If the store is crowded or you feel like you can't finish all of your food, please take advantage of the option of taking out. Opening hours are late, so it's best to come after you've finished skiing.

If you want to try a monster crepe that you can't find anywhere else, give it a try.
