Tackling climate change together as eco-partners
Akito Watanabe has won medals in Nordic combined at three consecutive Olympic Games. A native of Hakuba Village, Nagano Prefecture, he competes in mountains around the world as an athlete, and climate change is a threat to his career. To preserve snow for future generations, he has taken on the challenge of combining his athletic activities with environmental issues. In fact, at competitions and press conferences, he has had the logo "Advertising Wanted" on his helmet and cap. This was because he was looking for partners to make his athletic activities carbon-neutral, meaning that CO2 emissions are virtually zero
As a result of this partnership, the "Allbirds" logo will be displayed on the helmet, and Allbirds will provide shoes for training. All advertising fees will be used to purchase forest credits in Nagano Prefecture. Below is a comment from Akito Watanabe
"I'm impressed by Allbirds' strong will and drive to achieve their goal of using the power of business to reverse climate change, rather than being satisfied with the status quo. Fighting alongside them this season makes my continued struggle more meaningful than ever. I look forward to embarking on this new challenge, supported by their shoes that fit snugly around my feet."
What is Allbirds?

Allbirds, our new partner, was founded in San Francisco in 2016 by former New Zealand soccer player Tim Brown and biotechnology expert Joey Zwillinger with the goal of "reversing climate change through the power of business." They use natural materials such as merino wool and eucalyptus to develop sustainable shoes and apparel that have a low environmental impact
The company is a front-runner in the industry, continuing to take innovative steps such as clearly labeling the carbon footprint of all its products in order to reduce its carbon footprint to almost zero by 2030
