A talk event about climate change was held at a Patagonia store. "Do what you want to do now."

Patagonia will be holding talk events to discuss climate at five of its directly operated stores across Japan (Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Osaki, and Umeda) in March and April

The event consists of two programs.
The main program is a talk session in which Goro Komatsu and Michiyo Hashimoto, representative directors of POW JAPAN, will discuss a variety of themes with local speakers from various regions who live actively in harmony with nature, including organic farmers, trail runners, climbing gym owners, and mountain guides.
The other program is "Youth Climate Lawsuits for a Better Tomorrow," which introduces messages from 16 young people from all over Japan who are taking action against the climate crisis. Seeking a future not threatened by the climate crisis, they have filed a civil lawsuit against major power companies, which account for about 30% of Japan's CO2 emissions, demanding that they implement emission reductions at a level consistent with the scientifically defined 1.5°C target.

【speaker】

Goro Komatsu,

Representative Director, Protect Our Winters Japan (General Incorporated Association)

Originally from Niseko Town, Hokkaido, he currently lives in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture. He began skiing at age four, but moved to British Columbia, Canada at age 12 and continued snowboarding. While living in Canada, he encountered natives campaigning against the construction of a new ski resort, which led him to reconsider the relationship between snowboarding and nature and to believe that humanity should change how it uses nature. He has been advocating for reducing the burden on the natural environment since before the founding of Protect Our Winters (POW). In 2018, he founded POW JAPAN as its representative director. He currently lives at the foot of Kashimayari Ski Resort. Surrounded by clean water, air, forests, and fields, he enjoys the luxury of being able to walk to ski in the winter and walk to the lake to swim in the summer. He regularly takes his dog for walks

Michiyo Hashimoto,

Representative Director, Protect Our Winters Japan (General Incorporated Association)

Originally from Neyagawa City, Osaka Prefecture, he currently resides in Karuizawa. He represented Japan in the snowboarding halfpipe event at the Salt Lake City Olympics, where he was a finalist. Since then, driven by his desire to "raise children who can shine brightly through snowboarding," he has been involved in training and cultivating children's snowboarders since 2003, with a total of eight graduates having competed at the Olympics. In 2018, he began environmental activities through forests, based in Karuizawa, and in 2020 he became an ambassador for POW JAPAN. He is involved in environmental activities through snowboarding and e-bikes, as well as wellness projects that utilize nature
