The background and history of Chisato Sasada's challenge

After competing in the FWT Challenger in the 2025-2026 season, she topped the Asian rankings in the FWT Series 2025. As a result, she became the first person in the FIS to qualify for the 1st FIS Freeride World Championships 2026
The World Championships will be held in the Andorra Pyrenees, and she is currently based in Hakuba, preparing for the event. This will be a turning point for the Japanese freeride scene, and for her own career
"While imagining and picturing the future and scenery of the World Championships, there is only one thing to do: to simply focus on my own skiing, at my own pace,"
she said, expressing her determination to carve her own unique lines on Andorra's rugged slopes as a representative of Japan.
What is the FIS Freeride World Championships? The inaugural "FIS Freeride World Championships 2026," to be held this season, is positioned as a historic turning point in the world of freeride. Unlike the FWT, where the champion is contested throughout the season, this is a one-off competition where the winner is determined. With an eye on freeride becoming an Olympic sport in the future, this is a momentous event, being the first to be held under the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS).
