What is the Hokkaido Powder Belt?
Located in central Hokkaido, this is the collective name for ski areas such as Tomamu, Furano, Kamui, and Kurodake, where you can enjoy some of the world's best powder snow. The area is dotted with everything from rugged snowy mountains to local and resort ski resorts. Everyone can enjoy the snow, from advanced skiers who know the world's mountains to backcountry beginners
The popularity of the Powder Belt stems from its high-quality snow and easy accessibility. Numerous snow-covered mountains and ski resorts are scattered throughout the area, allowing skiers to choose a location based on the weather and conditions of the day. The low humidity, combined with long periods of sub-zero temperatures (around -20 to -30 degrees Celsius), allows for extended powder snow enjoyment, which is its greatest appeal.
In terms of accessibility, it's surrounded by three airports—Asahikawa Airport, Obihiro Airport, and New Chitose Airport—making it highly convenient. Numerous rental car counters and ski buses depart from each airport, ensuring smooth travel.
Furthermore, the scattered ski resort areas offer a variety of experiences, ranging from urban to resort-style. All types of resorts offer excellent après-ski activities, allowing skiers to enjoy a diverse range of ski experiences.
