Rebranding the mountain and promoting the appeal of Mt. Tanigawa both domestically and internationally
Hoshino Resorts, which operates 60 facilities both in Japan and overseas, including Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, Alts Bandai, and Nekoma Ski Resort, has announced that it will be operating the Tanigawadake Ropeway. This will be Hoshino Resorts' first facility in Gunma Prefecture
Located on the border between Gunma and Niigata prefectures, Mount Tanigawa is a mountain that can be accessed from the Tokyo metropolitan area in about two hours by car or bullet train. Known as one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, in the green season you can enjoy hiking while admiring alpine plants and autumn leaves, and in winter it transforms into one of Japan's snowiest areas
This attractive area is easily accessible from the Tokyo metropolitan area, has high-quality powder snow, and is a great place to enjoy backcountry skiing. We will re-disseminate this potential to both domestic and international audiences
It has already been in operation since March 2022, but is scheduled to change its name to include the Hoshino Resorts name in April 2023. Renovations are also under consideration for Tenjin Terrace, which is accessible via the ropeway
Below are comments from President Hoshino regarding the start of operations for the Tanigawadake Ropeway
"The ropeway operates smoothly all year round, and in winter there is powder snow. It's a place with amazing snow that rivals Hokkaido and Tohoku. The snow is deep, the slopes are steep, and it's the perfect place for backcountry skiers like me. It's not well known around the world yet, and it has a long way to go for Japanese people too. Until now, the management of Mt. Tanigawa hasn't been very proactive in promoting the winter season. There are some dangerous areas, so we've implemented safety measures and would like to gradually promote it starting this winter. Above all, it's incredibly accessible from Tokyo! It's in Gunma Prefecture, and I think that just by taking the ropeway you can enjoy the spectacular views from an altitude of 3,000 meters."
