Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain is a newly opened ski resort that connects the southern area of the former Alts Bandai resort with the northern area of the former Nekoma Ski Resort via a lift.
The northern area, formerly Nekoma Ski Resort, is located in one of Japan's leading heavy snowfall regions, and its biggest feature is that it can be enjoyed for a long season from December to Golden Week. Last season, the entire country was hit by a severely warm winter, and many ski resorts closed early, but Nekoma Mountain recorded the longest operating period in Fukushima Prefecture at 144 days.
Snow machines being introduced in the southern area this season!
While the southern area also boasts many high-altitude courses, some courses have historically suffered from poor snow conditions, resulting in the southern area typically opening around late December each year.
However, this season, a state-of-the-art snowmaking machine has been installed on the middle slopes of the southern area. This has allowed the southern area to open on December 14th, about a week to ten days earlier than usual. This is reportedly the earliest opening in 20 years.
This will allow for earlier access from the southern area to the northern area, and combined with the abundant snowfall in the northern area, it will be possible to enjoy the vast slopes for a longer period of time
