A DVD of "The Other Side," a video work by Sideshow, a crew formed by video artist Daisuke Kurata, will be released
In his previous work, "Sideshow," he focused not on flashy competition scenes, but on skiers who continue to quietly express their own skiing style, and filmed on the street and in powder. As it was the first street skiing footage released in Japan in a long time, it caused a stir among fans and the industry
The Other Side is being produced as "another world" of the previous work, and is packed with the attention to detail of cameraman and director Kurata. Sideshow is made in a classic style of filmmaking, so to speak. The music selection, scene composition, color and brightness of the images are all neatly arranged, making it an easy-to-watch and understand work
In contrast, this film is dominated by dark and gloomy images, and the music is mainly instrumental. This realistically conveys the feelings of the skiers tackling the streets and the atmosphere on set. While overseas productions often feature flashy, dynamic, and exhilarating footage, the actual filming location was tense, with the skiers focused in absolute concentration
This work was created to portray the skiers who continue to express themselves on the streets
