According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a winter-type pressure pattern will develop from the 14th, bringing the strongest cold air of the season into the upper atmosphere. The effects of this cold air will continue until the 17th, so heavy
snowfall is expected mainly along the Sea of Japan coast from Hokkaido to the Chugoku region, as well as in mountainous areas of northern Kanto, Nagano Prefecture, and the Tokai region.

Snowfall in the 24 hours leading up to the morning of the 16th is expected to be around 90 cm in mountainous areas of Hokuriku, 70 cm in Tohoku, 60 cm in Kanto-Koshinetsu, and 50 cm in Hokkaido and Tokai.
Furthermore, snow is expected to continue falling until the morning of the 17th, with 70-100 cm of snow in Hokuriku, 60-80 cm in Kanto-Koshinetsu, 50-70 cm in Tohoku, and 40-60 cm in Hokkaido and Tokai.
