This weekend's cold weather has left the area around Tateyama Murodo covered in snow
The snow mountain season ends and begins in Tateyama. Tateyama is finally showing snowy landscapes that signal the start of the 2020-21 season.
The first snow cover was seen on the summit of Mt. Oyama (elevation 3,003m) in the Tateyama mountain range on October 17th (Saturday). This is a little later than usual.
A live camera (at an altitude of 2,450m) installed at Tateyama Murodo provides real-time video footage, and as of Sunday, October 18th, the area was covered in snow, as shown in the photo above.
A time-lapse video (a full day's worth) taken from 4:00 to 20:00 on October 17th clearly shows the snowfall.
The natural snow season is just around the corner!
From the end of October through November, several ski resorts are planning to open for the 2020-21 season with artificial snow made by snowmaking and snowmaking machines, but Tateyama is a natural field where you can ski on natural snow earlier than anywhere else. Tateyama is covered in an incredible amount of snow even in November, and every year ski photographers and riders flock to take photos, and backcountry guide clubs organize tours to kick off the season
