Due to the cold weather this weekend, the area around Murodo in Tateyama is covered with snow.
The snow mountain season ends in Tateyama and begins in Tateyama.
Tateyama is finally starting to see the snowy landscape that makes us feel the beginning of the 2020-21 season. At the summit of Mt. Oyama (3,003m above sea level) in the Tateyama Mountain Range, the first snow was seen on Saturday, October 17th. A little later than usual.
A live camera (altitude 2,450m) installed in Tateyama Murodo shows real-time video, but as of Sunday, October 18, the area was covered in snow, as shown in the photo above.
If you watch the time-lapse video (for one day) taken from 04:00 to 20:00 on October 17, the day before, you can clearly see how it snowed.
Season-in with natural snow is just around the corner!
From the end of October to November, multiple ski resorts are scheduled to open for the 2020-21 season with artificial snow made by snowmakers and snowfall machines, but Tateyama is a natural field where you can ski on natural snow faster than anywhere else. Every year, ski photographers and riders flock to Tateyama, which turns into an unbelievably rich snowy mountain in November, and the backcountry guide club organizes tours at the beginning of the season.
