New initiatives at Nozawa Onsen Ski Club as it celebrates its 100th anniversary
Since June 30, 2023, the Nozawa Onsen Ski Club has been running a crowdfunding campaign with a target of 3 million yen.
It's called "Pioneering the Future of Skiing! The Challenge of the Nozawa Onsen Ski Club, a Club with a 100-Year History."
Since its founding in 1923, Nozawa Onsen Ski Club has produced numerous Olympians. It is one of Japan's leading ski clubs, with a consistent training system that supports athletes from Nozawa Onsen Junior (elementary school students) to Japan's top athletes. To mark the milestone of its 100th anniversary this year, the club has launched the "Next 100 Project" to further develop and strengthen athletes for the next 100 years
Until now, athletes who had grown at the club would retire from competition and then become coaches to train the next generation of athletes. With the warm support of the ski resort, town hall, and local residents, the club has continued to operate for many years. However, in the future, due to the influence of the current times, it has been determined that it will become difficult to continue training athletes in the same way as before. In order to develop athletes who can perform on the world stage, it is essential to have a well-organized training environment and development system in place from the junior level
This project needs a lot of support, both to preserve the traditions of the past and for the children who will take flight into the future. This is a great opportunity for us, not only locals but also those of us who go to Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort to support the project as fellow sporting figures.
