OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts is an in-town hotel where you can enjoy the charms of Hakodate, such as seafood, the night view of Mt. Hakodate, and the historic townscape, as well as a deep local experience. The hotel will once again be holding the Winter Squid Festival, an event where you can enjoy delicious and fun soul food, from November 15, 2025 to March 18, 2026
The star of this year's event, now in its second year, is the ever-popular squid rice. Since its creation in 1941 as a bento box at Mori Station on the Hakodate Main Line, it has long been a beloved local specialty and remains a cherished soul food representing Hakodate.
At the event, you can enjoy a wide range of flavors, from this "classic squid rice" to a variety of unique OMO-style variations.
Feature 1: Hot squid rice served in the live kitchen at the breakfast buffet

The breakfast buffet at OMO Dining features five types of seafood dishes titled "Seafood Five Stars." One of them is the original Mori specialty "ikameshi" (squid stuffed with rice) from Abe Shoten (*1), which can only be enjoyed at OMO5 Hakodate, the only hotel in Hakodate city that offers it.
According to the third-generation president, Maya Imai, the best way to enjoy it is to eat it fresh. To achieve this simple yet ultimate way of eating, it is served in a live kitchen with a piping hot secret sauce poured over it.
*1 Founded in 1903. A long-established store that invented squid rice in 1941 and continues to sell it as a specialty ekiben at Mori Station on the Hakodate Main Line in Hokkaido
Feature 2: Enjoy the stand-up selling style! Western-style squid rice and six types of mayonnaise sauce

The "OMO Rangers (*2)," dressed as street vendors who were the originators of ekiben (train station bento boxes), will appear at OMO Dining and offer "Vongole Ika Meshi," a Western-style twist on Ika Meshi (squid stuffed with rice). This warming dish features a soup full of seafood flavor and plump squid.
Six different mayonnaise sauces are also available. It's fun to try out various flavor combinations while listening to the OMO Rangers' recommendations on how to eat it and interesting facts about Ika Meshi.
*2 Hotel staff who know the city inside and out
Feature 3: Developed in collaboration with neighbors! A new type of sweet treat: "Ikameshi Ice Cream"

OMO Cafe & Bar offers "Ikameshi Ice Cream," which recreates the taste of squid rice and sweet and spicy sauce. This innovative dessert, developed in collaboration with Fuji Reika (*3), a shop specializing in homemade ice cream and sorbet, is finished with the sauce and topped with squid-shaped rice crackers. It's refreshing to eat after a bath, and the appearance is also exciting
*3 Founded in 1947. Starting out by selling popsicles and soft serve ice cream at movie theaters, the company offers flavors that focus on natural flavors without relying on Hokkaido ingredients or sweeteners
[Event exclusive] Abe Shoten original goods on sale

The shop, which is open 24 hours a day, will be selling original Abe Shoten merchandise for a limited time only during the event. The shop will stock a variety of merchandise to commemorate your trip, including small takeaway packages of squid rice and instant curry, as well as bags and T-shirts printed with the retro logo
