Listen to antique music boxes in a historic building at the "Lighted Otaru Night Lounge" @OMO5 Otaru by Hoshino Resorts

Located in the heart of Otaru, Hokkaido, OMO5 Otaru by Hoshino Resorts is currently hosting a night-only event called the Lighted Otaru Night Lounge. Inside the hotel, a renovated historic building, oil lamps are lit and public performances are held on antique music boxes

Otaru was once lined with financial institutions and trading companies and developed as an economic center. Today, the retro architecture built at that time and the Otaru Canal are popular tourist spots. Herring fishing has also been popular since ancient times, and glass floats were used to keep ropes afloat, so glass products are now a local specialty

Otaru is a popular tourist destination close to ski resorts near Sapporo and Kiroro Resort, and this event has been running since September 2023 as the perfect way to spend your après-ski time. The event will be held at OMO Cafe & Dining, a renovated former Otaru Chamber of Commerce and Industry building. Oil lamps from Kitaichi Glass, a long-established Otaru brand, will light up the entire space, and guests can enjoy the retro atmosphere, which is complemented by classic tablecloths and cushions, while watching the warm flickering flames

The public performance of an antique music box made over 100 years ago will be held in cooperation with the Otaru-based Music Box Museum, and will feature classical music using a disc music box that has long been used for live performances in restaurants and bars. One way to enjoy the music is not only to enjoy the rich tones of the deep bass and sparkling bell-like high notes, but also to think about the design and history of the aircraft itself

Starting in 2024, the resort will also begin serving local cuisine, offering a menu that can be enjoyed not only for dinner but also after touring other restaurants. Particularly recommended is the "Otaru Enjoyment Plate," which features popular dishes from nearby restaurants with a touch of Hoshino Resorts' signature touch. You can savour a little bit of local ingredients and products in a luxurious way. The plates that accompany the dishes are original creations created by Otaru glass studio "KIM GLASS DESIGN" in the image of the retro atmosphere of OMO5 Otaru. If you find a snack you like, you can even enjoy the original menu at the restaurant the next day
