HEAD released their new team movie, "Out of the Ordinary," online on November 22, 2025. It was directed and produced by veteran freeski filmmaker Jeff Thomas. The movie garnered 70,000 views in the two days after its release, and will subsequently be shown on a worldwide tour in 60 countries.
Expressing the "unpredictable and heart-pounding essence of freeskiing"

"Out of the Ordinary" is the third film in the series, following HEAD's "Beyond" and "Unified," and follows the athletes of the HEAD Freeski Team as they ski across stunning snowfields around the world, from the European Alps to Alaska, British Columbia in Canada, the fjords of Northern Europe, and even Japan.
The film's creator, Jeff Thomas, has been shooting ski and freeski footage for over 20 years. He previously worked with Mike Douglas on SALOMON TV. Jeff's style is to capture not only the techniques but also the "life of skiing" in his footage, set in backcountry fields around the world.

This film depicts the "unpredictable, yet heart-pounding" essence of freeskiing, as well as the characters and passion of the people who gather in it. While it features famous skiers, including Freeride World Tour champions, backcountry legends, and Olympic medalists, the focus is not on competition victories or advanced skiing techniques.
Ski-centered adventures and journeys, unpredictable coincidences and failures, endless dedication and love for powder, laughter with precious friends... The film's distinctive feature is its realistic portrayal of the "behind the scenes of skiing, the chaos and fun" that cannot be fully conveyed through cool and exciting skiing scenes alone, and this is the film's "flavor."
The opening segment of the film is set in Hakuba in early winter last December.

Here's a little inside story: STEEP actually assisted in the filming of the segment set in Hakuba, Japan, which plays at the beginning of this film.
Jeff suddenly contacted the editorial department in early December of last year. It was exactly one year ago.
"I heard a crazy cold wave is coming to Japan this week and it's going to be amazing powder! I want to go to Hakuba to film! Could you help us with our film crew trip?"
But his flight to Japan was in a few days, and he wanted to get up on the mountain as soon as he arrived! Things were hectic. We quickly asked several resorts in HAKUBA VALLEY that Jeff wanted to shoot at for cooperation, and we received many gracious replies saying they would accept us.
Just as Jeff had planned, heavy snow fell every day for the week the crew was in Japan. They guerilla-style dashed around various resorts, capturing plenty of the overhead powder shots they had been hoping for, and Jeff and the crew couldn't have been in better spirits. The thought of flying all the way from Canada and catching some deep JAPOW early in the season was such a thrill that the first segment of this episode of "Out of the Ordinary" is set in Hakuba, Japan.
