A huge hit in Europe. Test ride review of the ATOMIC "Redster Q" series on-piste models

With a brand concept of "Faster Always," ATOMIC's lineup tends to attract attention with its racing models, but the Redster Q series is currently gaining popularity in Europe. To find out more about the capabilities of these skis, which have received high praise in the skiing world, a member of the STEEP editorial team visited a test ride event held at Sugadaira Kogen Ski Resort in Nagano Prefecture last February

Assumptions

The venue was the "Ura-Taro Family Slope" in the Taro area of Sugadaira Ski Resort

The reviewer is a female member of the team, 164cm tall and of average weight, with an alpine background. The test conditions were sunny, on a moderate slope, with a slightly rocky and hard-packed surface

The skis I currently use on the slopes are the 155cm "TRIUN SL" from Ogisaka, a pure competition model known for its exceptional stability. While I have opportunities to try out basic and racing skis, I have no experience owning or continuously using skis from other brands

About "Redster Q Revoshok S"

A design inspired by snow spray

The Q series offers eight models of all-mountain and on-piste skis. With its sophisticated and chic colors, it's the ultimate "one-ski solution" that covers all mountain resort environments

Of all the skis I test-rode, the one that left the biggest impression was the "Redster Q9 Revoshock S." With a 75mm waist, it's a model in the series that's slightly more geared towards carving. Equipped with "Revoshock S" to absorb vibrations and "Multi-Radius Sidecut" to optimize behavior at each stage of the turn, it can handle all kinds of slope conditions

Test drive review

To be honest, it far exceeded my expectations. I had heard that it was sturdily built with big mountains in mind for Europe and America, but when I actually started skiing, I didn't feel any stiffness at all. It was easy to handle, and the ride was rather relaxed and comfortable. The ease of turning, despite the narrow waist, was also impressive

A sense of freedom as if nerves were flowing through it

It responds exactly as intended, as if it were an extension of your own legs. Its stability, responsiveness, grip, and smooth ride are all in perfect harmony, making it truly a "versatile" tire

The medium to long turns were particularly enjoyable, and I felt no anxiety even when increasing speed. The feeling of being able to freely adjust speed and turning radius mid-turn was a refreshing experience

A refined and stable ride

What's even more impressive is the stability during the latter half of the turn and during transitions, which tend to be unstable. It's not a matter of losing power or slowing down, but rather maintaining contact with the snow surface while easily and smoothly transitioning to the next turn. There's no need to be wary of excessive rebound or to force your body to stay turned towards the fall line. In the end, it naturally rounds off, giving a sense of ease and depth

With a gliding sensation reminiscent of elegant cruising in the European Alps, it transforms even an ordinary slope into a special moment. I feel like I've found a truly special ski that changes my perception of ATOMIC
