CANDIDE SKIS offers five models tailored to different riding fields, from parks to Alaska. Among them, the "BC 111" is considered the standard model that has been around since the beginning. Positioned between the resort-oriented "RESORT 101" and the big mountain-specific "AK 121," it is a versatile freeride model that can handle everything from resorts to the backcountry. In addition to the buoyancy of a 111mm center width, it also boasts maneuverability and high-speed stability

What are the capabilities of this model, which CANDIDE user Shinya Suzuki calls the "ultimate guitar"?

While the thought of skis designed by Candid Tovex might seem intimidating, they're surprisingly easy to use, incredibly reassuring, and I've grown to love them. I

particularly like the stiffness of the tail, which helps me a lot in turns and jumps. It has just the right amount of stiffness—not too stiff—allowing for control even on rough slopes without chattering. If you deliberately shift your weight to the tail for a big turn, the tail grips nicely, creating a beautiful arc. You can turn comfortably in all directions, from wide turns to short turns.

There's no difference in response at low or high speeds. They're highly maneuverable on perfectly groomed slopes and even on challenging spring snow. The swing weight is extremely light, allowing for stress-free ski control in any situation.

The "BC111" in particular offers outstanding high-speed stability on rough slopes! After enjoying powder on groomed runs, it truly shines on the bumpy, rough terrain.

Despite its 111mm waist width, the early-rising rocker provides ample buoyancy even in powder. These skis excel at up-and-down movements in deep snow, allowing for techniques like deliberately sinking and floating, buttering in powder, face shots with tail-driven turns, and creating large sprays that adapt to the terrain. I believe they are the ultimate skis that deliver high satisfaction in any situation.

On mornings with snowfall, I aim for powder; even without snow, I enjoy playing on the terrain and walls, carving, jumping kickers in the park, and when skiing with my kids as a family, I have fun exploring the terrain. For anyone who wants to fully enjoy the mountain with just one pair of skis, this is the perfect ski to make you happy!

"RECKONER KF" is this kind of ski

K2|RECKONER KF│D=137-114-134mm (184cm)|R=23m (184cm)|L=177,184,191cm|¥143,000

The top model in K2's freestyle line, "RECKONER," is a signature model for Karl Fostvedt. Of the seven models ranging from 92 to 124mm, the 114mm model is positioned more towards big mountain riding. With approximately 14% more flex than the standard model and a full-length carbon layer, it achieves a balance of responsiveness and stability. It is designed for park and street riding, but also suitable for powder and large-scale riding. This board embodies the style of Karl, who is known as "Crazy Karl."

Keiji Takagi of "OFF-1" praised the machine's ease of use, calling it a machine specifically designed for powder snow

Despite its size and width, I felt the lightness of the tip, resulting in a nimble swing. Yet, when I picked up speed or pressed down firmly, it allowed for stable turns and an even more agile handling feel. There was a

slight chatter at the tip when going fast on groomed slopes, but that made the handling feel lighter, so I think it's a trade-off.

During the test ride, there was some rough powder on groomed slopes, but I felt the buoyancy and maneuverability were such that the bumps were hardly noticeable. Even so, the flex wasn't so stiff that the board was difficult to move, and I think it's easier to handle than it looks for someone who can ski at a certain speed.

I think this board is a good match for people who want lightness and good swing-like movement, even in powder. It's a board I'd want to own as a dedicated powder ski.

User Kanata Tanaka seems to have experienced a completely different feeling compared to other models in the same series

It has a completely different feel from other Reckoner series skis. It's geared towards freeride, and you can feel the rebound and stiffness of the carbon.

Being a twin, it's relatively easy to slide. It's perfect for sliding and tricks while skiing through powder at high speeds. However, if you're not firmly centered on the ski, you'll get bounced off.

What we learned from the comparison

These two signature bikes vividly reflect the personalities of top riders. The BC 111, true to Candide Thovex's style, is appealing for its high degree of freedom, allowing you to carve your own lines across groomed snow, powder, and terrain. On the other hand, the RECKONER KF reflects Karl Fostvedt's style of transforming natural terrain into a giant park, allowing you to jump, spin, and butter—playing the mountain to the fullest without being bound by convention. Will you carve creatively, or will you play around in a multifaceted way? See if you can relate to the characters of these two riders
