No.15 Kai Jones: Yearbook 2021
Last fall, at the age of 13, Kai Jones, a prodigy, graced the opening of a movie by the long-established production company TGR. This video features his solo part, a single cut from this year's TGR production, "Stoke the Fire."
In the backcountry of Jackson Hole and Montana, he conquers lines that even adult professional skiers would hesitate to attempt. His skiing is so fearless that it's almost incomprehensible. Is he
only getting attention because he's a talented kid, or has he earned this part by skiing better than adults? You'll have to see for yourself.
No,16 Arc'teryx Presents: Here Goes
This is Sam Kuff's segment, primarily reconstructed from footage used in Matchstick Productions (MSP) – The Stomping Ground. His
big mountain line-taking skills are evident, likely due to his origins in British Columbia, Canada. This is combined with an incredibly high level of aerial awareness, yet Sam grew up in an area with virtually no parks, so he didn't practice tricks extensively in parks.
Instead
, he apparently did gymnastics and trampolining at a considerable level. Connecting lines with such high speed requires truly exceptional spatial awareness; attempting it in practice is extremely difficult, as you often have to slow down due to lack of visibility or get stuck in the terrain.
Furthermore, his sense of timing for tricks, such as performing a double backflip on a completely natural lip or landing a nose butter just before a cliff, is extraordinary.
The fusion of high skill creates his unique skating rhythm, captivating the viewer.
The Arc'teryx segment is edited differently from the main Stomping Ground segment. I personally prefer the way the jumps are presented in the main MSP video. This is a young trio from France. The filmmaker also appears to be French.
A uniquely French aesthetic sense is evident in the tricks and the meticulous details of the editing.
Naruto and Dragon Ball were broadcast overseas, and fans who grew up watching them have made it commonplace to incorporate sampling and homages into music and videos.
Also, brand marketing strategies differ from country to country.
It feels fresh just to see the logo of an international sports apparel brand appear in skiing footage.
It's interesting to pay attention to these kinds of details.

Led by Valentin Morel, this Swedish crew takes on Larkspark this spring.
Their fresh style is complemented by mellow hip-hop beats,
creating the perfect atmosphere for chilling out while watching.
No.19 “SUPERVIEW” A B-dog Bone
These veteran riders have been leading the way in video expression for many years.
The massive parks and streets are far removed from the fields that ordinary users usually ski on, making it difficult to imagine just how amazing their skiing is.
Their everyday skiing at the resort feels more relatable, and it's in the smaller sections that you really feel the incredible skill of their skiing.
Filming and editing are by Phil Casavon. He is a French-Canadian, and you can definitely feel his French sensibility. Not only his skiing, but his editing style is so well-established that you can immediately recognize it as Phil's.
Videos released by Armada are often filmed and edited directly by riders themselves or former riders. Riders themselves are sharing what they think is cool. This is very important for the growth of this culture.
No.20 Candide Thovex – Some laps in Crans-Montana Park
Living legend Candid has recently been known for his freeride style, but he's released park footage for the first time in a while. And it's filmed using the "follow-me" technique that he's always been known for.
Candid really does ride at high speeds, so keeping up with him requires considerable skill.
His signature trick, the flare blunt grab in the pipe, is so iconic it could be considered his signature move. Longtime fans will be moved to tears. And there are also tricks that have been updated to his recent style.
You can fully enjoy his ageless riding in slow motion and from a variety of angles.
No. 21 SWA – FULL MOVIE
This ski movie is influenced by hip-hop classics and old footage.
It seems to be made by two people based in Leddieu-Alpes, a snow resort in France. Scenes from Canada and Switzerland are also included, but even looking at the captions and their Instagram, the details are not very clear. I feel that their reluctance to release much information to the public is typical of Gen Z.
The Sony VX1000/VX2000 was a standard camera for shooting action sports such as skateboarding in the past. Scenes with a fisheye lens attached, where the corners of the image are blacked out, were shot with the VX. The technique of deliberately using VX footage has recently become popular in some circles such as skateboarding, but it is rare to see it used to this extent in a ski movie.
It is a work that combines classic elements from the past with the sensibilities of a new generation.
