Chief guide RIKI Chikara Nakajima became the first freestyle ski instructor in the world in addition to his ski instructor qualification in Whistler, Canada in 2000. He is a professional skier who has participated in numerous freestyle competitions. “I want to share the beauty of nature, the joy of skiing, and the joy of skiing,” he sends a message to his guests through his guiding, letting them feel free in the midst of nature. Smooth transition from technical lessons to the backcountry

RIKI JAPOW GUIDE also offers programs that include technical lessons for those who want to start backcountry.

This program is unique to Riki, who also holds instructor qualifications, and you can check the level of your skiing skills and receive key lessons on the techniques necessary for backcountry travel, allowing you to step up to backcountry tours with confidence. The locations of the tours we offer are mainly in Hokkaido, Tohoku, and the Bandai area. Check the official website for details.

【Step to Back Country】

This program is designed for beginners in the backcountry, and allows participants to acquire the minimum skills required before heading out into the mountains, such as how to use beacons, read the terrain, and the necessary equipment.
This program is held at the ski resort before participating in a full-fledged guided tour, so it's safe even for first-timers. A 2-hour program aimed at beginner backcountry skiers, intermediate and advanced skiers.
Guide ratio 1:6 Participation fee: ¥18,000/person (for ages 13 and over)

【Let's Freeriding (Freeride World Tour official program)】

A 1-day private lesson will be held by a Freeride World Tour Academy certified instructor.
These are session-style lessons taught by professionals that can be enjoyed by everyone from intermediate to advanced. They will give lessons on powder, ice burn, bumps, etc. according to your wishes. The program takes place at a ski resort and takes about 6 and a half to 7 hours. Participation fee: Elementary school students and above, ¥20,000 to ¥50,000/person (up to 6 people)

Tomamu Guiding]

Tour around Tomamu with a custom-made program to suit your preferred style and level.
A program that allows you to enjoy Tomamu to the fullest while learning slope strategies. It also provides information on facilities, making it convenient to plan your stay. It takes 4-5 hours. For beginners/intermediate backcountry skiers, beginner/intermediate/advanced skiers, guide ratio 1:6
Participation fee: Elementary school students and above, ¥16,000 to ¥40,000/person (up to 6 people)

[Hiking & Shred]

Jump out of Tomamu Ski Resort and try backcountry skiing tailored to your level.
Travel time: 5-8 hours. For intermediate and advanced backcountry skiers, intermediate and advanced skiers, guide ratio 1:6
Participation fee: 13 years old and over, ¥20,000 - ¥50,000/person (up to 6 people)

【Sun rise BC tour】

A tour where you climb the mountain in front of Tomamu while it's still dark, watch the sunrise from the summit, and run down the slope as the sun shines.
To participate, advance participation in [Discovery TOMAMU] or [Hiking & Shred] is required. Time required: 3 and a half to 5 hours. Guide ratio 1:4 Participation fee: 13 years old and over, ¥30,000/person


Riki NAKAJIMA

Born in Shiga prefecture in 1981. While studying in Whistler, Canada, he acquired the CSIA instructor qualification and the first Japanese CFSA freeski instructor qualification. After returning to Japan, he expanded his field of activity to the backcountry in addition to participating in numerous free ski competitions. Over the past few years, he has been active in a wide range of activities, such as lessons, guides, events, and MC, based at Tomamu Ski Resort in Hokkaido. He is the representative of the guide company "RIKI JAPOW GUIDE".
