The birthplace of the mogul skier brothers Takuya and Kenro Shimoyama
Naeba Grindelwald is a lodge founded in 1967 and passed down through three generations of the same family. The current third-generation owner is Takuya Shimoyama, who competed in the All Japan Mogul Championships. His younger brother, Kenro, two years his junior, was a member of the Japanese team at the Salt Lake City Olympics. In other words, Grindelwald is a lodge run by the parents of Olympic athletes.
Conveniently located just 500 meters from Naeba's main slopes, it can accommodate 80 people, making it quite a large lodge. It is said to be a popular venue for group training camps. The lodge also has a large hall, which can be used as a billiard hall and table tennis room during the winter.
The owner lives by the motto, "Never cut corners in anything," and puts effort into everything from preparing meals to cleaning the rooms.
For example, for dinner, they serve a menu that is both delicious and generous in portion size, including a main dish centered around meat, soup made with plenty of seasonal ingredients, freshly cooked Uonuma Koshihikari rice, and homemade sweets that change daily, all prepared with care.

Thoughtful rooms
There are both Western-style and Japanese-style rooms available. They are thoroughly cleaned and maintained, and you wouldn't even notice they're a little older. They're a relaxing and comfortable space

Homemade dishes that warm the body and soul
One of Grindelwald's biggest attractions is the food, lovingly handmade in the kitchen by the third-generation owner and his mother. Their homemade ham is especially popular. Other offerings include piping hot soup, salads overflowing with fresh vegetables, and freshly cooked Uonuma-grown Koshihikari rice… and as you can see, the daily desserts look delicious!
*Menu items may change depending on availability.
Various arrangements are available, including overnight stays with two meals and pre-stay packages, allowing you to enjoy their renowned cuisine.
"Excellent" and "Recommended!"
The best thing about Grindelwald is gazing out the dining room's large windows at the snow-covered world on a morning when it is gently falling. The beauty of this scene is truly soothing. Enjoy a relaxing moment with a cup of aromatic coffee
