A return to true freestyle skiing. Salomon's "DÉPART.02"

Last year, the "DÉPART.01" was released as the brand's first new product in the freestyle ski category in over 10 years. It was born from the idea of "creating a completely new freestyle ski" based on suggestions from riders, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the release of the legendary "Teneighty," a ski that spearheaded the freestyle skiing boom

Following the limited-edition first model, what kind of evolution has the second model, which aims for a "return to true freestyle skiing," undergone?

What is "DÉPART"?

Named after the English word "depart," meaning "to leave" or "to go away," this unique ski was created as a counterpoint to the trend in the freeskiing world that has been moving towards competing on the difficulty of tricks. It is a model that was born within a new movement that emphasizes creativity and free expression through video production and social media

"Depart" is not just a model name; it embodies a creative vision for skiing and an intention to shake up the alpine skiing industry to its core

The original " DÉPART.01 ," characterized by its sharp shape and design, which developer Sami says "makes you want to go skiing, and gives you the feeling that the skis themselves are inviting you to go!" , will be updated with a new design and shape next season.

Evolution from the first unit

While the "DÉPART.01" features a wide design with a center width of 104-106mm, primarily designed for enjoying tricks while riding, such as powder riding and side hits, the newly released "DÉPART.02" has a slightly narrower center width of 98-101mm, making it a model mainly focused on tricks in street and park riding

The core material has been changed from a lightweight calva/poplar wood core to a full poplar wood core that produces uniform flexibility and moderate rebound

Furthermore, while the previous model was only available in a maximum length of 180cm, the lineup has been expanded to 188cm in response to requests for longer sizes. "DÉPART.02" also adds a 164cm option, and with its softer flex, slimmer shape, and shorter radius, it is designed to be easier for a wider range of riders, including women, to handle

A unique worldview

The dark, retro, and addictive worldview unfolding on their dedicated social media accounts is truly one of a kind. It's clear that this is "skiing by artists, for artists."

This highly anticipated series will, as in the previous year, be sold in limited quantities at select stores in Japan.
