Akakura Kanko Ski Resort's gondola has been renovated. Experience the specially designed, comfortable space!

It's late January, almost a month into the season. With stable snowfall reports flooding the country, you can almost picture skiers and snowboarders excitedly awaiting their weekends. For those of you checking snowfall and snow depth information

to decide where to go this weekend, how about a comfortable gondola ride in a heavy snowfall area? Did you know that

the gondola at Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Area, located in the mountain range of Mount Myoko, one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains, has been renovated in time for the autumn foliage season of 2024?

Needless to say, the weather on the day we visited was fantastic. It was a snowfall that continued until after noon, truly living up to the name Myoko and Akakan!
Thanks to the snow, the ungroomed areas of the slopes offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy powder snow, which is one of the charms of Akakura Kanko Snow Resort.

You'll want to enjoy the fresh powder snow on the slopes, then take a rest on the lift or gondola before your next run.The newly renovated gondola, now a cute, bright red egg-shaped one, makes this comfortable environment a reality

The support pillars and the base and summit stations remain the same, but the cables, motors, and the gondolas themselves have been redesigned. We will introduce the new, more comfortable gondolas and the appeal of Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Area through photos

The boarding point remains the same as before, on the right hand side of the mountain base station building in the same building as the lift ticket office at the base of the ski resort
There is only one entrance lane, so please remember to be considerate of others
Board the bus at the landing at the top of the stairs. Space is limited, so please wait patiently for your turn
The egg-shaped gondola was designed in collaboration with an Austrian manufacturer. The entrance is over 80cm wide and high enough to allow smooth boarding and disembarking without bending over
The new racks can easily accommodate fat skis
The seat is thick and extremely comfortable
The red of the passenger car creates a nice frame, making the view of the silvery white world even more enjoyable
The summit station building where you disembark remains unchanged. There is space to prepare for the ride after disembarking, so you can take your time getting ready
This scene where lifts and gondolas intersect is still alive and well

It's not just the newly renovated gondola! There's also
powder snow, a long downhill run, and even sweets!

When choosing a slope, if you're going with friends of different levels, you might find yourself gazing at the course map while deciding where to go. Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Area has powder, long downhill runs, and a cafe where you can relax! It's not just for powder lovers, but can be enjoyed by people of all levels

Because it snows steadily every day, the ungroomed areas on the slopes are always fresh, allowing you to enjoy powder snow with peace of mind.
Furthermore, not only the ungroomed areas, but also the 4.5-kilometer long downhill run from the summit to the base, accessible by gondola and lifts, allows skiers of all levels to enjoy the slopes in their own style.

Among the many rest houses, the one that stands out the most is the cafe at the Akakura Kanko Hotel, located halfway up the slope.
Even skiers who aren't staying at the hotel can use it while wearing their boots, making it especially recommended for those who want to relax.

This hotel has a history of over 80 years, and it might feel presumptuous to enter in ski wear and ski boots, but there's absolutely no problem with that.

And best of all, the cakes are always delicious! It's no exaggeration to say that people go to the Red Temple just to eat them; the cakes are gorgeous and come in a wide variety

Now that we are blessed with perfect conditions wherever we go, why not choose a slope with another purpose in mind, such as the new gondola or the delicious ski food and sweets, and you may make some new discoveries?

The view of Lake Nojiri from the gondola on a clear day is fantastic
