Arc'teryx envisions a future of "no waste manufacturing." ReBIRD™ leads the way in circular aesthetics

Are outdoor products disposable items that are used up and discarded? Or are they "gear" that approaches completion through continued use?
Arc'teryx's circular program, "ReBIRD™," is not a service to extend the lifespan of products. It is a philosophy for redesigning the future of gear, based on the premise of "never ending." Starting with the new ReBIRD™ service center that opened in Ikebukuro, we will unravel its design philosophy.

Make "wash, repair, and restore" your everyday choices

Arc'teryx realizes "manufacturing that doesn't waste" through the power of design, via its "ReBIRD™" program, which circulates the product lifecycle.
This is not simply a repair or resale system; it is the implementation of a design philosophy that assumes the product (gear) will be used for a long time.

Last autumn, the third ReBIRD™ service center in Japan opened in Ikebukuro. It
is a new urban circular hub where people can experience the acts of "washing, repairing, and regenerating" not as something special, but as an extension of everyday life.

ReBIRD™ aims for circular design

ReBIRD™ is a program that embodies Arc'teryx's philosophy of "promoting circularity through design."
It seamlessly connects actions such as care, repair, functional restoration, and upcycling, transforming the product lifecycle from a line into a circle. Just as there is no end to nature, there is no end to Arc'teryx products. Remaining well-used garments and transforming materials that have served their purpose into new forms—all of this is viewed as "the realm of design" by ReBIRD™.

At the heart of this is the philosophy that "restoring functionality, not appearance, is the top priority." This idea is symbolized by the ReBIRD™ slogan, "KEEP THE GOOD IN PLAY."

KEEP THE GOOD IN PLAY:
Keeping the product's life alive.

To continue supporting athletes' challenges in the mountains, Arc'teryx dedicates the same passion to product maintenance. From daily care to repairing damage, ReBIRD™ accompanies your product throughout its lifecycle, aiming to remain a reliable partner no matter how many adventures or seasons pass.

For Arc'teryx, clothing is both fashion and "gear"—tools for protecting the body in nature. Repairs are not simply about making the garment wearable again, but about "restoring it to a level where it can be used in the mountains."
Even if restoration is not possible, discarding is not an option. It is about upcycling, giving it a new life. "Never letting it end" is the very purpose of the design.

A new recycling culture taking root in the city

The ReBIRD™ service center employs an open counter format, allowing customers to actually see the repair and washing processes.
This is not just a service hub, but an "experiential space" that fosters a new dialogue between the brand and the user. The act of "nurturing, repairing, and using" a product, rather than simply "buying" it, is presented as a design element in itself.

The in-store washing and drying machines also offer select services for some Arc'teryx products. By properly caring for your product, you can restore its functionality

Ikebukuro is a transportation hub connecting urban and mountainous areas, serving as both a starting point for many to head to the mountains and a transit point to return to their daily lives.
Products used in the mountains return to the city, are prepared, and then headed to the next field. ReBIRD™ functions as a hub supporting this cycle.

Care is aesthetics - a design concept based on continued use

ReBIRD™ proposes more than just an ethical approach to environmental considerations; it embraces "caring" as an aesthetic.
Using products for longer periods isn't a fleeting trend, but an extension of Arc'teryx's consistent design philosophy. ReBIRD™ is also a cultural program designed to allow people to experience this shift in values in their daily lives.

Please note that ReBIRD™ services are available exclusively to members of Arc'teryx's membership program, "BIRD CLUB."
BIRD CLUB is a program designed to foster continuous connections with the brand through product purchases, event participation, and field experiences. The experiences and data gathered are then fed back into the development of next-generation products, creating an ecosystem where customer experience and manufacturing continue to circulate.

"We design for circularity. (Designing to be used continuously, not just to be used up.)"
Through ReBIRD™, Arc'teryx continues its challenge to create a circular future for its products.
