Yukigoi CAMP held! October 24th (Sat) - 25th (Sun) | To make this winter the best new winter, and to have lots of snow, enjoy camping while everyone “prays for snow”!

Everyone who can't wait for winter, get together!
Let's start the excitement with "Yukigo CAMP"

It's finally October and the start of the snow season is just around the corner.
In addition to the light snow last season, the season naturally faded out due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Many skiers and snowboarders must have had incomplete combustion because they couldn't even slide. This season, we're reorganizing!
Therefore, along with the new days of with Corona, an event was planned to pray that this 2020-21 season will be a good season, that there will be plenty of snow and that you can enjoy skating to your heart's content. Its name is "Yukigyo CAMP".

I asked Mr. Kensaku Yamane of the executive committee what kind of event it was.

Q. "Yukigyo?" First of all, what kind of event is it?

Mr. Yamane
'Snowy CAMP' is a camp with people who love winter. It's a camping event.

There is a temple priest who is a free skier, so we are planning to actually hold a snow-making ceremony. People who love snowy mountains gather together and pray for powder. (smile)

Q. Where is the venue?

The event venue, including the campsite, is Maiko Snow Resort in the Minamiuonuma area of Niigata Prefecture. It is very convenient because it is only 2 minutes from the Shiozawa Ishiuchi IC on the Kanetsu Expressway, so it is about 2 hours by car from the city center.

This time, it was a special venue, and the ground golf course was specially opened to the public, so it was a very beautiful natural lawn, flat, and comfortable. This campsite boasts a great view overlooking the Uonuma Plain. At this time of year, you can also enjoy autumn leaves.

Q. What is the content and menu of the event?

There are 4 big ones.
(1) Camping (2) Brand mall where you can enjoy shopping for snow-related goods (3) Food court with local gourmet food (4) Stage content for talk shows and performances on a special stage.

① Camp

There are two types of camps: overnight camps and day camps.

For lodging, you can bring a tent to the campsite and pitch it wherever you like. Cars cannot enter. This time it is natural grass and the ground is flat, so it is easy to put up a tent. Bonfire and BBQ are OK, so I think you can enjoy it very much.

The DAY camp also has a space where you can spread out something like a tarp or shelter, so it's okay to have a BBQ on a day trip. You will have to bring your own BBQ equipment and ingredients. Of course there is also a water circulation.

② Shopping at brand malls

One of the highlights of this event is shopping at the brand mall. We will exhibit and sell skis, gloves, goggles, etc. You might be able to get it at the event price! So everyone, please bring your shopping bag. The brands available are as follows. Get ready for the season and go shopping!

Opening brand (planned)

③ Food court

Popular food trucks and stores that are developed mainly in Minami Uonuma will open stores. You can BBQ by yourself, but I would like you to enjoy the local gourmet food at the food court. We are planning to sell rotisserie chicken, taco rice, handmade sausages, noodles, crepes, etc. The WHISTER CAFE, which is popular among free skiers in Naeba Ski Resort and Maiko, will also open!

This time, the admission fee includes 1,000 yen for those who participate in 2 days and 1 night, and a 500 yen voucher for day trips. It can be used in food courts and brand malls, so please make good use of it.

④ Stage content

Details such as the talk show, DJ, music, dance team performance, performance schedule, etc. will be decided in the future, so please check the official website.

Q. What is the participation fee like?

①1 night 2 days camp participation 6,000 yen (tax included)
(Includes 2-day ticket, free site usage fee, and 1,000 yen ticket for inside the venue)
②One-day participation 1,500 yen (tax included)
(1-day ticket, with 500 yen ticket for inside the venue)

Under 18 is free! Please come and visit us with your children! If you are a day-trip participant, you can bring your pet, such as a dog.

Q. What are your measures against the coronavirus?

Of course, the event will be held with thorough measures against the new coronavirus infection.

I want to know more!

Do you need to book in advance? A day trip?

No reservations are required for day trips. Please make a reservation in advance to secure the area for accommodation only.

Do you have any points, such as overnight camping and day trips, how to spend each recommended day?

If you are camping overnight, you can check in at the campsite from 8:00 on the morning of Saturday, October 24th, so please come early to secure your own base and have plenty of fun from the morning of the first day.

In addition to enjoying the nature of the plateau, you can also enjoy the daytime with shopping at brand malls and music performances. How about BBQ and outdoor cooking for dinner, and a bonfire and a glass of wine in the evening?

All the visitors are friends and family of skiers and snowboarders, so nice to meet you! However, it may be one of the pleasures to enjoy chatting about common mountain stories and making mountain friends.

If you're going on a day trip, one point is to bring an outdoor chair. I think it would be easier if there was a chair. A tarp is nice too. Even on a day trip, you can make your own base and enjoy BBQ etc.

If I go by train on a day trip, is there a pick-up service from the nearest station?
I have! You can use the Maiko Kogen Hotel shuttle bus from JR Echigo Yuzawa Station to the hotel, but it requires a reservation, so please check the timetable in advance and make a reservation.

Can you enjoy hot springs too?
That's right!

You can use the large public bath at Maiko Kogen Lodge next to the campsite. The usage fee is 500 yen. You can also rent bath towels (200 yen). It is open from 6:00 to 10:00 in the morning and from 16:00 to 22:00 in the afternoon, so please enjoy the hot springs between camps and events.

Finally, the background behind the planning of this "Yukigyo CAMP"...

What was the background behind the production of this "Yukigyo CMAP" in the midst of the world's unsettled corona misfortune?

Mr. Yamane, a member of the executive committee, used to be a freeride rider and is now a staff member of CAST Co., Ltd., the production company that manages this site "STEEP".

In the promotion department, we collaborate with companies and local communities and put various ideas into the form of media and events, striving for work that entertains people. This project is one of them. “In the first place, KREV Sports Muikamachi in Niigata held an event called “KREV Sports Muikamachi Birthday Festival” in early July, and I was allowed to participate as “STEEP” there.

At that time, the atmosphere was that it would be a bit difficult to hold an event in the world. I realized that if I worked out how to do it properly, I could do an event even during the corona crisis.

Last year, in the first place, there was a small snowfall, but from February, the ski resort and the inn naturally closed due to Corona. Even in the spring, the new model order meeting was canceled without stopping, and the incomplete combustion and the feeling of anxiety about the future continued. I think people in the snow industry and many other skaters felt the same way. I want to do something! Heading into this season, we're all going to work together to make it more exciting, so let's hit it off with Mr. Kishino, CEO of KLEV and Ms. Yagi and Ms. Ijima from Maiko Resort, and hold an event! I decided.

The other thing is that I have been wanting to hold a winter-themed event every fall for over 10 years, but I haven't been able to make it happen. However, I had accumulated ideas and a network of people, so I thought that I could make good use of them for this project this time. Yukigyo CAMP is handmade one by one with great care. I hope that many people will enjoy it.”

This is Kensaku Yamane, a member of the executive committee and CAST. Please come and visit us!
