The background and history of Chisato Sasada's challenge

After competing in the FWT Challenger in the 2025-2026 season, she topped the Asian rankings in the FWT Series 2025. As a result, she became the first person in the FIS to qualify for the 1st FIS Freeride World Championships 2026
The World Championships will be held in the Andorra Pyrenees, and she is currently based in Hakuba, preparing for the event. This will be a turning point for the Japanese freeride scene, and for her own career
"While I imagine and picture the future and scenery of the World Championships, there is only one thing I do: just focus on my own skating, at my own pace,"
she said, determined to carve her own line on the steep slopes of Andorra as a representative of Japan.
The FIS Freeride World Championships ... The first FIS Freeride World Championships 2026, held this season, is positioned as a historic turning point in the freeride world. Unlike the FWT, where the champion is decided over the course of a season, this is a competition where the winner is decided in a single event. With an eye on the future inclusion of freeride as an Olympic sport, this is the first commemorative tournament to be held under the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS).
