Hoshino Resorts, whose theme is "making travel fun," has introduced "Yuki Kids," a Hoshino Resorts-style ski lesson that uses a new method based on sports science to ensure steady improvement.
This year, in addition to the know-how they have cultivated up until now, they have introduced a "new method" based on sports science, which was developed in collaboration with Professor Makoto Takekoshi (Nippon Sport Science University/Sports Management Department, Faculty of Sports Management), who specializes in sports science.
Until now, lessons were conducted as "Yuki Kids 70," which broke down skiing movements into 70 steps, but this will change to lessons that are more fun for children and will definitely help them improve their skiing.
It is available at three facilities: Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain, and RISONARE Yatsugatake. RISONARE Yatsugatake and Hoshino Resorts Tomamu have areas reserved for snow kids, making their skiing debut a safe experience.
Yuki Kids' Feature
1: A new method for mastering four movements based on sports science
In order to incorporate a scientifically based method with Professor Takekoshi Makoto, a test was conducted on children who had never skied before. The results revealed that compared to adults, children have a harder time moving their bodies as they wish on slopes, and that in order to improve, the four movements of "up and down," "left and right," "center of gravity position," and "speed tolerance" are important.

At Yuki Kids, rather than immediately practicing these movements on a slope, we have adopted a step-by-step system where you first learn them on flat ground and then practice them on a slope. This allows you to improve naturally and quickly.
In addition, the lessons incorporate poses and games with names that children can easily relate to, to keep children from getting bored. The lessons are designed to help children improve their skiing naturally while having fun, just like playing.
Comment from Professor Makoto Takekoshi
"In recent years, skiing has become less popular, especially among young people, and the appeal of snow sports has not been fully conveyed. However, we empathized with Hoshino Resorts' passionate desire to get children to enjoy skiing, and decided to jointly develop YukiKids. This program incorporates elements of play into instruction so that children can feel that skiing is fun! Experiencing nature through skiing and learning the joy of physical activity also contributes to the healthy development of children. We hope that the memories of enjoying ski trips with family as children will become the foundation for building families and rich human relationships in the future. As a researcher in ski instruction, it is my greatest joy to be able to contribute to such a future."

2. Fun lessons that allow you to improve while playing
Unlike traditional instruction methods that focus on technique, ski lessons are centered around play and games. For example, participants play rock-paper-scissors with their feet while wearing ski boots, or make original poses. At first glance, these movements may seem like they're just playing with the staff, but they actually contain the key movements to improving your skiing, so you can improve naturally while having fun.

The staff in charge of lessons have studied coaching theory based on sports science at Nippon Sport Science University, so they are able to motivate children to the fullest.
3. A dedicated area for snow kids to make their skiing debut with peace of mind
Each facility has a designated area for Snow Kids to make their skiing debut in peace. In areas that are only available to Snow Kids participants, you can practice without worrying about other skiers or snowboarders.

Hoshino Resort Tomamu Ski Resort has an escalator that connects the area, making lessons more efficient and ensuring plenty of ski runs.
Also, the Yuki Kids Snow Park at RISONARE Yatsugatake offers free lessons for children at Yuki Kids Level 1 (complete beginners or those who have difficulty stopping in a V-shape on gentle slopes), making it easy to participate.
Lessons that lead to steady improvement and special experiences that can only be had in winter. If you improve your skiing skills through these lessons, your winter trips with your family will surely be more enjoyable than ever before.
