Yoichi Watanabe's photo exhibition "Snow Forest"
Yoichi Watanabe released his photo book "Snow: The Essence of the Winter Forest" in February 2020. A photo exhibition bearing the same name was held in Sapporo, Hokkaido from November 4th (Wed) to November 30th (Mon). The venue was visited by many snowy mountain fans
Below are Watanabe's thoughts on the photo exhibition and its contents
"It is a great pleasure to be able to hold a photo exhibition at the memorial museum of the Western-style painter Tomioka Soichiro, whom I respect, 46 years after my first experience of skiing and snowy country in Muikamachi. On one side of the 50m-long exhibition wall, my Yukimori photographs will be displayed, facing Tomioka's Western-style paintings on the other. I have continued to produce photographs on the subject of skiing and the climate of snowy country, and it was a great challenge to be invited to this exhibition and to exhibit at the foot of Mount Hakkai."
The next exhibition will be held in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture from Saturday, December 19th. At the opening of the Minamiuonuma venue on December 19th, Watanabe himself will give an explanation of the purpose of the exhibition and the photographs he has taken, and a talk show is scheduled to be held on January 16th
