A new ski shop called "well-tuned," specializing in ski hiking (backcountry cross-country), will open in Iwamizawa City, Hokkaido, at 12:00 on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Representative Kota Ito is from Ebetsu City, Hokkaido. He has previously worked for ski and outdoor brands and is well versed in the winter outdoor industry. Using his extensive experience, he will promote "new ways to enjoy the snowy mountains" in local fields.
The store's name, "well-tuned," embodies the idea of maximizing the value and appeal of what already exists by adjusting tools, ways of thinking, and ways of interacting with nature. The store's name symbolizes the desire to deliver such an experience.
The shop offers gear suggestions and consultations, focusing on ski hiking. As one of the few stores in Japan specializing in BC cross-country skiing and step soles, it is unique in that it can handle everything from sales to installation and maintenance. It provides careful support so that visitors can naturally step out into the snowy mountains.
Well-tuned will also be the only Phantom Cure Station in Hokkaido. PHANTOM Glide is a permanent base treatment technology that improves the glide of skis and snowboards. Unlike conventional wax, it penetrates deep into the entire base for effective results. (Phantom cure service: 19,800 yen)
The shop is also planning to hold ski hiking tours. The Tonebetsu virgin forest, which serves as the skiing field, is an area with a total area of 400 hectares and a 19km long hiking trail. The appeal of the tour is that you can enjoy the scenery of the rural mountains spreading out below you and the Yubari mountain range in the distance. The tours are available for a range of levels, from 1.5-hour beginners to intermediate, advanced, and premium. All tours include rental, so you can participate even if you don't have your own gear.
