DPS's flagship model, "KAIZEN," has received its first update since its release

DPS's flagship all-mountain freeride model, the "KAIZEN," will receive a major update next season. Let's take a closer look at its evolution, reviewing its history since its inception, and examining the revamped structure and design, as well as the key points of its advancement

20th anniversary of the brand's founding

Known for its innovative use of carbon fiber, the brand is a unique force in the field of carbon fiber engineering.
While typical skis use carbon fiber only partially, DPS employs a "pure carbon structure" with aircraft-grade carbon sheets placed throughout the wood core. This achieves a balance of powerful rebound and supple elasticity, and its resistance to deterioration over time has established its value as a high-end model that can be cherished for many years.

Flagship model "KAIZEN"

DPS has entered a new phase to commemorate its 20th anniversary. It has expanded its product range with "Pisteworks," which specializes in on-piste riding, and "Koala," an all-mountain line that enhances maneuverability and stability with a hybrid carbon structure.
And for the upcoming season, its 21st year, attention will be focused on "KAIZEN," which will receive its first major update since its introduction.

What is KAIZEN?

The all-mountain freeride "KAIZEN" series was introduced in 2024 as the successor to the "Pagoda," which was the flagship freeride model

Its most distinctive features are its stability, achieved through the unique "split core structure" technology which separates lightweight poplar and high-strength ash vertically and joins them horizontally, and its high energy transfer performance thanks to the "premium full carbon structure."

Furthermore, the carbon laminate structure technology introduced in recent years provides a smooth ride. While utilizing the lightweight and highly responsive properties of carbon, its weaknesses such as stiffness and tendency to generate vibrations are suppressed through a unique design. The result is a smooth and stable feeling while maintaining rigidity and natural flex

What could be improved?

New plate: "Carbon Power Plate"

Named "KAIZEN" to express innovation and evolution, this first update features the newly incorporated "Carbon Power Plate," further improving stability and delivering high performance in all situations

Uniformity of flex

Furthermore, the slight unevenness in flex that was previously noticeable has been improved. The smoother feel towards the tail allows for greater freedom in positioning and makes it more adaptable to various riding styles. At the same time, control has also been significantly enhanced

Optional Colors

Furthermore, a new optional color, "Carbon Reveal," has been added to the lineup. This design, which deliberately reveals the internal carbon structure by making the top sheet transparent, is not merely a decorative feature, but a demonstration of the technical prowess involved in visualizing the structure. While it is a paid option in its home country, it is available in Japan at the same price as the standard colors, allowing customers to choose according to their preference

How do you choose?

The appeal of the KAIZEN series lies in the diverse riding experiences it offers, resulting from the complex interplay of multiple elements such as numerical values, outlines, and internal structure. The two models available, with waist sizes of 100mm and 105mm, have vastly different characteristics, and it's ideal to choose based on the actual riding feel rather than the buoyancy you might imagine from the numbers. You need to consider the characteristics of each model and your riding style when making your selection

KAIZEN105│D=135-105-119mm (184cm)|L=155,163,171,179,184,189cm|R=18m (184cm) ¥269,500

While the 18m radius might suggest that the 105 is designed for straighter turns, its tapered tail shape actually makes it easier to slide and skid than the 100, and it also supports turn initiation. This ski is ideal for skiers who want to minimize catching in the latter half of turns and achieve a smooth, effortless exit

KAIZEN 100│D=133-100-118mm (184cm)|L=153,163,171,179,184,189cm|R=15m (184cm) ¥269,500

On the other hand, the 100mm model has a better edge grip, allowing for more powerful turns. However, it also requires more power to firmly press down on the board

It's also worth noting that all models come pre-applied with Phantom Wax. Being able to start skiing right after purchase is a major advantage. While this wasn't heavily promoted before, it's now clearly indicated on the top sheet this season, making its value even more apparent
