POC was founded in Stockholm, Sweden. POC is an eyewear brand whose product development is driven by a team of medical specialists and material researchers, with the mission of protecting gravity sports athletes from serious accidents. It is also produced by Fullmarks, which also handles Hestra and Norrona, making it popular among powder and freeride skiers and snowboarders

Release of lenses specifically designed for night skiing and poor visibility
POC has now released a new lens specifically designed for night skiing and poor visibility. The FOVEA CLARITY COMP NIGHT SPARE LENS is compatible with the FOVEA CLARITY COMP goggle model, which is highly popular among athletes

How can you maintain visibility when it gets dark or visibility is poor?
The FOVEA Clarity Comp Night Spare Lens is a high-contrast lens that is nearly as clear as possible and has minimal tinting. With a VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) of 73% and a CAT (Category A) of 1, it offers excellent specs for excellent visibility. It is a lens that can be used in a wide range of situations, including nighttime skies, cloudy skies, and poor visibility due to gas

Why were lenses developed for night games in the first place?
This new night riding lens was developed in response to requests from top athletes in the sports scenes supported by POC. In the FIS World Cup race scene, there are often differences in light and dark, not only in night races but also in competitions such as the FWT, which have a large difference in altitude from the start to the finish line, and athletes have been requesting brighter lenses
There are many high-contrast lenses for use on sunny or cloudy days, but until now there have been no high-contrast lenses specifically designed for night games. Clear lenses have generally been used in conditions such as night games. However, maintaining visibility is especially important in dark and poor conditions. This is why this dedicated lens was developed
The difference in appearance is obvious - its features and power
The bright lens color schemes for competitions are well suited to the dark eyes of Asians (incidentally, Westerners with blue, green, or brown eyes are more sensitive to light than Asians, and perceive light brighter than us). For this reason, pale pink base lenses, such as OAKRY Pink Iridium, are popular
The photo on the right below shows what it looks like in light pink. The center photo shows what it looks like through the newly developed COMP NIGHT lens for night games, and the left photo shows what it looks like with the naked eye. Comparing the three photos, the difference in how it looks is clear. It's clear that COMP NIGHT provides an extremely clear and bright field of view

A little technical talk:
Here's where the big difference between daytime lenses and lenses for daytime use comes from.
High-contrast lenses are filter lenses that adjust natural light. They control the wavelengths of the three color spectrums of red, blue, and green contained in sunlight, and are adjusted to emphasize the natural contours of objects. Conventional high-contrast lenses for daytime use suppress the short-wavelength blue light that reaches the Earth in large amounts, and compensate for the lack of long-wavelength red light
Unlike during the day when the sun shines through, on cloudy days or during night skiing conditions when the sun does not penetrate, blue and green light (shortwave and midwave) is reflected off the snow surface, with midwave green light dominating and being present in excess. As a result, the snow surface appears blurry and flat, making it difficult to judge distances. Excessive green light wavelengths not only cause glare, but also strain the eyes and cause discomfort
Therefore, this lens suppresses the transmission of green wavelengths (the value is about 0.8% reflection), increases the transmission of weaker wavelength red light, and compensates for the pale red color, thereby maintaining the original brightness and successfully enhancing the contrast of undulations, etc. In addition, the lens is treated with seven layers of anti-reflective coating, which prevents glare and reflections from artificial light sources
In recent years, it's become a given that visibility can be maintained in bright conditions, but it's also important to be able to maintain visibility in the dark or in poor visibility conditions.
Why not try out these lenses this season? STEEP also introduces ski resorts where you can enjoy plenty of night skiing, so be sure to check them out.
