In the middle of the season, exhibitions are being held in various places where manufacturers are unveiling new models for the next season, 2023-24. This time, we spoke to SINANO, a traditional Japanese pole brand, at the SNOW SPORTS Joint Exhibition (held at Pacifico Yokohama on February 14-15)
There are two types of poles for backcountry use
SINANO is a specialized pole brand with a 100-year tradition that has been progressing alongside the history of skiing in Japan. Throughout their long history, they have continued to study the grip and gliding of Japanese skiers, resulting in poles that are made in Japan. They have developed grip shapes based on ergonomics, strength that prioritizes skier safety, and scientifically derived ease of swing and maneuverability, all of which combine to produce poles of superior quality
SINANO has a strong presence in the world of alpine racing and basic skiing. While it hasn't yet reached that level in the freeskiing and freeride world, it does have some products for backcountry use, with two new models being released for the 2023-2024 season: the "FAST BC Carbon" and the "BC Lite."

The cheapest carbon ski poles?! "FAST BC Carbon"
The "FAST BC Carbon" is a telescopic pole and will be a continuing model for the 2023-2024 season. What makes it best is its cost performance. At 15,400 yen, it is the cheapest telescopic carbon pole with a snow basket in the industry. By making it an affordable price, we wanted entry-level users to be able to experience the benefits of carbon poles
It's built to be quite strong and sturdy, with a load capacity of 41.2 kg. While the swing balance may feel a little heavy, the T-grip allows for stable kick turns, making it a safe choice for beginners who are unfamiliar with backcountry skiing. The powder snow basket is large and the spikes are long, so it won't sink into deep snow and is easy to use

The lightest and most minimalist is the BC Lite
The lightest and most minimalist model is the "BC Lite." By eliminating the length adjustment function and using a carbon shaft, it achieves the lightest weight of 210g (per club). It is a fixed-type, narrow 10.5 carbon model and uses a 44 grip that is easy for Japanese people to hold. The rubber grip makes it easy to use even when traversing. The strap style also makes it very easy to take in and out
It's light and easy to handle, yet has a maximum load capacity of 67.9 kgf. It's sturdy enough to withstand the weight of heavy equipment, even on tours and trips involving overnight stays. It's easy to use and perfect for minimalists. It even comes with an attached basket for use on snowy mountains. This is the second season of this model, but this season it has been redesigned with a color that makes it highly visible even on white snowy mountains and in blizzards

Environmental Initiatives & Backcountry Invitation "Shinano Wandervogel"

SINANO is also involved in efforts to combat climate change, hosting a trial event called "Shinano Wandervogel" for users who want to try backcountry skiing for the first time
Over the two days, participants thought about the environment, received lectures on avalanche detection and guidelines for behavior on snowy mountains, practiced backcountry skiing, and enjoyed powder riding
