ATOMIC is not only overwhelmingly strong in alpine racing around the world, but also has a prominent presence in the Japanese freeskiing scene, with top riders such as Tsuyoshi Kodama, Ayana Onozuka, Yu Sasaki, and Gen Sasaki. We asked them about the new models they're looking forward to in the 2023-2024 season and other hot topics at a test ride event hosted by Pro Shop VAIL (held March 18-19 at Naeba Ski Resort)
The evolution of the BENT series continues
The signature model "BENT CHETLER" was designed and developed in collaboration with artist and rider Chris Ben Chetler, and has continued to evolve over the past 14 years
The 2021-2022 season saw the introduction of only two sizes, 100mm and 120mm, but the following 2022-2023 season saw the introduction of the highly versatile 110mm, the middle size. The following 2023-24 season will see the addition of slimmer widths of 90mm and 85mm for park and slopestyle, bringing the adult lineup to five models, plus the addition of the "BENT CHETLER MINI" and "BENT JR," for a total of seven models. With a wider range of waist widths, the lineup will continue to expand in the 2023-24 season, further enhancing the lineup as the "BENT FAMILY."
The appeal of BENT
The BENT's signature feature is its smooth, wave-like stability. HRZN Tech (except for the BENT85) is used on the tip and tail, increasing the surface area by 10% for increased flotation in deep snow without increasing the width or weight of the ski. This creates a more open feel on the tip and tail, allowing for smoother, more flexible handling over natural terrain, improving performance
The BENT skis are incredibly light, and while they feature a rocker shape on the tip and tail, they also have a vent in the center, making them light and extremely flexible, allowing for a large contact area when bent while still allowing for good carving
And above all, the graphics. Benchetler's hand-drawn artworks have a consistent message of self-expression through art, but the items, touches, and colors depicted change skillfully every year. There is no doubt that they are fascinating works of art
