Kiroro Snow World in Hokkaido is home to some of the best powder snow in Japan. Located at the base of the mountain is Club Med Kiroro Peak, an all-inclusive resort popular with not only skiers and snowboarders, but also beginners and travelers looking to enjoy the resort
While it's standard to stay at a resort like this for a week or longer to fully enjoy it, this time our editor Nakamura stayed for a weekend and shared his thoughts on how to enjoy Club Med Kiroro Peak
What is Club Med Kiroro Peak?

Opening in December 2022, Club Med Kiroro Peak is an all-inclusive resort where the accommodation fee includes lift tickets, ski and snowboard lessons, meals, drinks, activities, and more (some fees apply). Accommodation is limited to those aged 12 and over, making it a so-called "adult resort."
Club Med Kiroro Peak is about a 90-minute drive from New Chitose Airport. It is located in Akaigawa Village near Otaru, about a 60-minute drive from Sapporo city, and about 40 minutes from Otaru, making it easily accessible from other famous cities in Hokkaido
There are a total of 126 guest rooms, divided into three main types: "Superior," which is ideal for couples or small groups; "Deluxe," which features a living room where families can relax; and "Suite," which has the largest floor space and includes a bedroom for children

In November 2024, it will evolve into an even more luxurious and sophisticated resort as the first "Exclusive Collection" mountain resort in Asia
This "Exclusive Collection" offers more than just the regular all-inclusive service, with even more premium services such as fast "Premium Wi-Fi" and "Free Flow Champagne" after 6 PM
Kiroro Snow World Recommended Courses
The appeal of Kiroro Snow World is its abundant snowfall. At its peak, the area receives over 5 meters of snow, and during the peak season, it snows almost every night, resetting the course conditions and captivating skiers from all over Japan and the world
There are many courses with varied terrain starting from the tops of the two mountains, each over 1,000m above sea level, and the vast slopes offer a total of 23 courses with the longest run of 4,050m, allowing you to enjoy both groomed and ungroomed snow

Additionally, there are five tree run areas within the ski resort's management area, which had not yet opened at the time of our visit in December

There are five vast tree run areas across four areas, all accessible via dedicated entrances. The variety is endless, with beautiful tree run forests, varied natural terrain, powder, and courses full of adventure. There are also many courses that can be easily ridden using the lifts, making them a must-see for advanced skiers
This time, I'd like to introduce three courses that left an impression on me
1. Asari Dynamic

This is a course that runs parallel to the gondola from the top of Asariyama. With a maximum gradient of 23.9 degrees and an average gradient of 12.5 degrees, it appears to be a gentle course just by looking at the numbers, but it has a wide variety of terrain, including well-packed snow and powder on the side of the course, making it a fun course to imagine how you will ski
2. Asari 2-A

This is a long, groomed course that starts from the top of Asariyama. After approaching from the bottom with a single Kiroro Gondola, you can ski efficiently by taking the Asari No. 2 Express. The adjacent Asari No. 2 B course is an ungroomed, advanced course, so it's recommended to enjoy both courses
3. Yoichi 1-A

Accessible by taking the Yoichi Daiichi Express from the foot of the mountain. There is a wall on the right side, and depending on your ingenuity, there are various ways to play. The wall is on a flat slope, so it is recommended to be conscious of speed when approaching
As mentioned above, there are a total of 23 courses, and we weren't able to ski all of them properly during our stay. The condition of the courses changes depending on the snow quality and weather of the day, so it's more enjoyable to ski in a variety of conditions and discover the differences
However, the conditions at the time of the interview were excellent with snow continuing to fall. I enjoyed the powder snow everywhere I went, and almost forgot I was doing an interview

The real fun begins after you finish skiing? Enjoy the peak at Club Med Kiroro

Once you're done skiing, head to the locker room reserved for guests
There are lockers in each room that can be accessed directly from the slopes, and the lockers in the superior rooms are large enough to easily fit four pairs of skis or two snowboards. There are also racks for hanging boots and helmets, so storage is no problem
There are benches in the locker room so you can sit down and loosen up your boots, which is a nice feature
The lockers are linked to your room key, so security is assured. The locker room is constantly ventilated and functions as a drying room, so you don't have to worry about your gear getting wet

After-ski at the bar

Once you've finished cleaning up, head to the main bar, "THE VIEW BAR."
"THE VIEW BAR" has large windows overlooking the Yoichi and Family slopes, creating a very open atmosphere. There are sofas by the windows from which you can enjoy a view of the slopes. The bar also has warm lighting, making it a comfortable and relaxing space for after-skiing
Drinks include alcoholic beverages such as beer and whiskey, as well as soft drinks, and these drinks are included in the all-inclusive plan, so you can enjoy them anytime during your stay. Depending on the time of day, light snacks such as sweets and sandwiches are also served, so you can enjoy them with your beer or champagne
By the way, the staff at the bar counter communicated in English, but don't worry, I was able to order a beer even though I don't speak English

Buffet-style restaurant serving international cuisine

After enjoying some beer and snacks, we headed to the main restaurant, Otaru. For dinner, we enjoyed a buffet with a wide variety of dishes, including Japanese, Chinese, and Western cuisine. Some dishes on the menu were prepared in the "live kitchen" style, so it was great to eat freshly made food. What I particularly liked were the many seafood dishes made with fresh seafood from Hokkaido. Salmon, tuna, chirashi sushi, etc. I also like steak and Chinese food, but as "Hokkaido is synonymous with seafood!" I had tuna many times

There's also a wide selection of desserts, so you're sure to be satisfied. By the way, all the food during my stay was so delicious that I ended up gaining weight, but I'll tell you a secret
Entertainment to enjoy after your meal

Club Med Kiroro Peak offers a variety of entertainment every day
During my stay, DJ equipment and lighting had been set up on the stage in front of the bar, and the bar itself was lit up, transformed into a club with shot glasses lined up

It's not the hotel's exclusive DJ or guests who take to the stage to liven up the atmosphere, but the GOs themselves. During the day, they work as hotel staff, such as at the front desk or as instructors, but when it comes to entertainment, they use their individual personalities to liven up the atmosphere. It's also unique to be able to communicate with the GOs in a different way than during the day
You can have fun with the other guests around you, or you can have a drink while watching the excitement. There's so much fun to be had that it would be a shame to just relax in your room. I felt like I'd discovered how to enjoy a resort that's more than just skiing
This is my experience, but Club Med Kiroro Peak also has a gym, large public bath, yoga room, and other facilities. You can also use the natural hot springs and indoor pool at the adjacent Kiroro Grand, all of which are included in the all-inclusive plan. The popular tourist destination of Otaru is also nearby, so it might be fun to schedule a "no-skiing day" during your stay and enjoy sightseeing and the resort

Club Med Kiroro Peak offers a variety of activities throughout the day, including skiing, dining, facilities, and entertainment. It's the perfect place to combine skiing and resorts. The best powder and comfortable hotel accommodations will provide you with a memorable experience
