How much are you planning to spend on gear this season? We asked 120 people at Ishii Sports' Custom Fair in Tokyo

Ishii Sports' Custom Fair, an early pre-order sale event for the 2025-2026 new ski models, was held in Tokyo from June 13th (Friday) to June 15th (Sunday), and our editorial team conducted an exit survey of attendees. We asked about the amount of money people will be spending on ski gear this winter, as well as the brands and products they are looking forward to purchasing. Let's take a look at the interesting responses from 120 people

This is the entry area of the Custom Fair Tokyo venue. The editorial staff waited here to greet visitors

The Ishii Sports Custom Fair, an annual event that marks the start of the season, attracts a wide variety of visitors, from athletes who are serious about competing in competitions, to casual skiers who enjoy skiing on the slopes, and families with children. This year, the venue at Ikebukuro Sunshine City Exhibition Hall A was once again packed with visitors. Our editorial team posed the following two questions

❶ How much do you plan to spend on skis, boots, clothing, accessories, etc. this season?
There are three options: Under 50,000 yen | 50,000 to 150,000 yen | Over 150,000 yen

❷ What brands or products are you interested in at this custom fair?

The 120 respondents were:

We had them stick stickers on items according to their budget. Blue stickers are for men, red stickers are for women. You can instantly tell which budget zone has the most people

Gender| Age

Of the 120 people surveyed in the exit poll, 84% were male and 16% were female. Although a conscious effort was made to reach out to more women, the overwhelming majority of visitors were male. In terms of age, the majority were in their teens and twenties, and were members of university ski clubs. This custom fair is well-known as an annual event for student skiers. Other than that, roughly half were in their 40s and 50s. This seems to be a very similar demographic to the actual age group of the skiing population today

What is your budget for purchasing ski gear this season ?

Of the 120 people who responded, 43% said the largest amount was in the 50,000 to 150,000 yen range. This probably means a single ski (if you haven't thought about bindings) and new boots. Next was over 150,000 yen. If you add a ski and boot set-up, clothing, or buy multiple large items, it's natural that at the current price range the total will exceed 150,000 yen. Even so, this only accounted for 35% of the total. The smallest amount was under 50,000 yen. Are you planning to just buy a helmet, goggles, and gloves this season? (Although some helmets and goggles cost over 50,000 yen...)

During the interviews,
we heard many comments such as: "I'd really like to replace more items, but with the current high cost of living, I'll have to settle for just one item this year,"
"I anticipated price increases this year, so I bought my snowboard last year," and
"The only things I can easily buy are goggles and gloves..."

What do you think of these results?

What item do you want to buy?

We asked people what items they would like to buy within their budget. Out of 100 respondents, 45 chose skis, followed by boots and clothing. As expected, skis, which are constantly evolving with improved functionality and new graphics every year, are the most popular choice for people looking to buy new skis. Changing the skis you use allows you to enjoy a new sensation when gliding
