INDEX

Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Resort (Niigata Prefecture) is a ski resort like this

"Akakan" popular with advanced skiers, powder & long course is attractive

The red-roofed Akakura Kanko Hotel, which stands halfway up the slopes, is a pioneer of Japanese highland resorts with a history of 80 years since its establishment. Nicknamed Akakan, it is popular among advanced skiers. It is convenient because it is only 8 minutes from Myoko Kogen IC and you can enter the course right from the parking lot without having to walk.

The ski resort has a vertical layout with Maeyama of the Myoko Mountains in the background. The combination of the high altitude and the terrain where it is easy for snow to accumulate has created a stable powder environment. The long courses can be taken using gondolas and lifts, making for a highly satisfying ski experience. The end of the upper lift connects with the neighboring Akakura Onsen Ski Resort, making it easy to access the backcountry area.

Introduced automatic gate system

This season, four ski resorts in Myoko City, including Akakura Kanko Resort, have introduced automatic IC gates as a new initiative. This will allow you to ride the lift directly on the day of your trip without having to line up at the lift ticket counter, allowing you to use your time more effectively. This is also good news for freeskiers who aim to hit the Akakan powder first thing in the morning.

・Hotel A course

Maximum slope: 23 degrees Average: 18 degrees / Distance: 900m / Slope orientation: North

An uncompacted slope running along the Hotel No. 5 Quad at the top of the slopes. Many people head here after it snows. With a maximum slope of 23 degrees and a course length of 900, it is relatively wide and easy to attack even in powder. There is a gate (with avalanche transceiver checker) to the BC area at the top of the course.

・Champion A Course

Maximum slope: 32 degrees Average: 20 degrees / Distance: 1200m / Slope orientation: Northeast

An uncompacted snow course with the highest slope (32 degrees) in Akakan. The course length is 1200m and it is long and slippery. After a snowfall, it's powder, and usually it's a formidable bumpy slope. It's not uncommon for snow to fill up the bumps even overnight here, and if you hit it, you can expect the best skiing.

・Women's national sports course

Maximum slope: 22 degrees Average: 12 degrees / Distance: 1700m / Slope direction: East

A long course of 1,700m with steep slopes at the top and medium slopes that are easy to attack on the whole. It's great to fly at high speed from a straight line to a curving and groomed slope. Feels good even in powder.
