What is Appi Kogen Ski Resort (Iwate Prefecture) like?

Official PV

A huge resort offering premium experiences for both stay and skiing

Appi Highlands is known as "Appi in Tohoku" as a resort complex with beautiful, sparkling corduroy runs, some of the longest courses in the country, and high-end hotels. 21 courses radiate out from the 1,304m-high independent peaks of Maemoriyama and Nishimoriyama, half of which are over 2km long. The course map is an overwhelming sight, as it shows just how large the scale of the resort is.

Thanks to its topographical conditions and its location at 40 degrees north latitude, Appi's snow is fine-grained and does not harden easily. In recent years, Appi has steadily expanded its ungroomed snow and tree run areas, and now has five areas. Not only is the terrain varied, but there is also a wide variety of trees, making tree runs where you can enjoy the beauty of Tohoku's nature all the more special

Appi Kogen recommended course

・Varied tit course

Maximum gradient: 32 degrees, average gradient: 23 degrees / Distance: 900m / Slope orientation: East

One of the most interesting places in Appi is this one in Nishimoriyama. This is the zone with the best snow quality in Appi, and of course, the entire area is ungroomed. Because it's at a high altitude, it's covered in high-quality powder. With a maximum gradient of 32 degrees, it's a steep slope with spray rising, and the length is also excellent.

・2nd Sailer Course A

Maximum gradient: 22 degrees, average gradient: 10 degrees / Distance: 2300m / Slope orientation: North

One of the most interesting places in Appi is this one in Maemoriyama. It's the largest powder zone in Appi, and most of the course is ungroomed. If you enter from Sailer Quad, the upper part is a steep face for advanced skiers, but it becomes gentler halfway through, allowing you to enjoy a long run of 2.5km in total.

・Tree Run Zone

Attack, Bravo, Cruise1, Cruise2, Dragon Tail

Appi's two-run zone offers the best quality snow. It's a big selling point for skiers. The five areas cover a total area of 600,000 m2! There are two vast tree fields in Nishimoriyama at the back, and three in Maemoriyama at the front. You'll love being able to enjoy the long runs that only Appi can offer.
