What is Hakuba Happo-one (Nagano Prefecture) like?

The overwhelming scale and variety of slopes make this one of the best in Japan

If you're serious about skiing, there are few ski resorts that can compare to Happo. With an elevation difference of 1,071m, one of the highest in Japan, the trails extend from the top of the slope to ridges in four directions, most of which are medium-steep slopes that are plenty challenging to ski. Only at Happo can you speed across groomed runs that are pristinely packed from top to bottom for 1km. You'll want to hone your high-speed carving skills and feel like an alpine racer

The reason why Happo is considered the king of Hakuba is because it has a wide variety of slopes and undulations. It has top-notch quality in powder, moguls, terrain, and more

Supervised by "THE PARKS," Japan's top snow park construction team, this snow park makes the most of Happo's wide slopes, excellent terrain, and snow quality. You can enjoy a variety of styles, from turns and jumps to all genres. A long run from Skyline through the park is also highly recommended.

More gourmet food on the slopes

Hakuba Happo-one Ski Resort already boasts numerous dining options, but this winter, the menu and system have been further enhanced.
"Cafeteria YETI" offers a wide variety of dishes to meet guests' needs and provide highly satisfying meals, and reserved seats are available to ensure seating is available even during busy times.

At Kitaone Kogen Terrace, we offer unadon (eel rice bowls) and limited-time seafood bowls. We also recommend the popular Shinshu soba noodles, yakiniku bowls made with plenty of Hakuba's new rice, and soft serve ice cream

Recommended courses at Hakuba Happo-one Ski Resort

・Skyline

Maximum gradient: 32 degrees, average gradient: 16 degrees / Distance: Approximately 1000m / Slope orientation: North

This ski resort has a particularly varied terrain, making it a must-see for freeriders. The overall terrain is bowl-shaped, and it avoids the influence of the wind, making it easy for fresh snow to remain. From the top to Skier's Left, the terrain continues in a valley, so we recommend using the wall on the left side to ski down

Skier's Right has a gentle slope on the ridge. You can ski down into the valley from anywhere, so enjoy skiing down one side of the slope. The slope below the lift line at the bottom is often rough powder because there are many ski marks

・OMUSUBI

Maximum gradient: 33 degrees, average gradient: 27 degrees / Distance: Approximately 500m / Slope orientation: East

The off-piste course "Omusubi," which comes into view as soon as you leave the gondola summit station, is an ungroomed deep powder spot for advanced skiers. There is a gate, and the course is open or closed depending on the inspection by patrols on days with good conditions between early January and early March

The upper section is undulating and has many jumping points. The lower section is a somewhat dense tree run. If you go too far to the skier's left, the traverse to return to the gate at the bottom will become longer, so be careful. This is a special place where you can soak up the finest powder piled up on the slopes

・Black back

Maximum gradient: 31 degrees, average gradient: 27 degrees / Distance: Approximately 800m / Slope orientation: North

This off-piste area stretches across the northern slope of Kurobishi Pair Lift No. 3. Due to its high altitude and north-facing location, you can enjoy some of the best powder runs depending on the timing. When you look up, you'll be greeted by a spectacular view of the dynamic mountains of the Northern Alps

It's worth skiing this course just to experience this situation. It's prone to wind, and has a mix of snowdrifts and icy sections, making it quite difficult, but the sense of satisfaction when you finish is unbelievable

Recommended Gourmet

Roast Beef Bowl with Azumino-grown Wasabi @ Cafeteria YETI
This roast beef bowl features tender roast beef slow-cooked at a low temperature for four hours, topped with a homemade soy sauce-based sauce.
The refreshing aroma of Azumino-grown wasabi fills the air, and the yogurt and egg yolk toppings provide the perfect accent. This is a must-try dish that offers a delightful combination of texture and aroma.

Recommended hot springs

Hakuba
Happo Onsen is a hot spring resort located at the foot of Happo Ridge, directly below Mt. Hakuba Yarigatake in the Northern Alps. It boasts four day-use bathing facilities, approximately 60 accommodations, and two footbaths. Happo no Yu is the central facility, conveniently located near the ski resort and highly valued by ski guests. The open-air bath is a natural hydrogen spring. Hakuba Happo Onsen is one of Japan's strongest alkaline hot springs, with a pH exceeding 11, and is loved as a "smooth, egg-like skin" hot spring because of its peeling effect that removes dirt and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.
