Arc'teryx envisions a future of "no waste manufacturing." ReBIRD™ leads the way in circular aesthetics

Are outdoor products consumables that are used up until they are gone? Or are they "gear" that becomes more complete with continued use?
Arc'teryx's circular program, "ReBIRD™," is not a service designed to extend the lifespan of products. It is a philosophy for redesigning the future of gear, based on the premise that it "never ends." Starting from the new ReBIRD™ Service Center that opened in Ikebukuro, we unravel the design philosophy.

Make "wash, repair, and restore" your everyday choices

Through its ReBIRD™ program, which circulates its product lifecycle, Arc'teryx is using the power of design to create "products that don't get thrown away."
This isn't just a system for repair and resale. It's the implementation of a design philosophy that assumes products (gear) will be used for a long time.

Last fall, the third ReBIRD™ Service Center in Japan opened in Ikebukuro. It
is a new urban recycling hub where customers can experience the act of "washing, repairing, and restoring" as an extension of their everyday lives, rather than something special.

ReBIRD™ aims for circular design

ReBIRD™ is a program that embodies Arc'teryx's philosophy of "promoting circulation through design."
It seamlessly connects actions such as care, repair, functional restoration, and upcycling, transforming the product life cycle from a line to a circle. Just as there is no end to the natural world, there is no end to Arc'teryx products either. ReBIRD™ considers all of this as part of the "realm of design," by reconditioning worn-out clothing and regenerating materials that have outlived their usefulness.

At the heart of this is the philosophy that "restoring functionality, not appearance, is the top priority." This idea is symbolized by the ReBIRD™ slogan, "KEEP THE GOOD IN PLAY."

KEEP THE GOOD IN PLAYKeeping

the life of your product alive. To continue supporting athletes' challenges in the mountains, Arc'teryx puts the same dedication into maintaining its products. From daily care to repairing damage, ReBIRD™ stays with you throughout the life of your product, aiming to remain a reliable partner through countless adventures and seasons.

For Arc'teryx, clothing is not only fashion, but also "tools (gear)" to protect the body in nature. Repairs are carried out on the premise that the item will be restored to its original condition so that it can be used in the mountains, rather than simply being returned to a wearable state.
Even if restoration is not possible, disposal is not an option. Upcycling gives it another life. The very purpose of design is to "never let it end."

A new recycling culture taking root in the city

The ReBIRD™ Service Center features an open counter format that allows customers to see the repair and washing processes in action.
This is more than just a service center; it is an "experiential space" that creates a new dialogue between the brand and users. The design presents the act of not just "buying" a product, but "nurturing, repairing, and reusing" it.

The in-store washing and drying machines also offer select services for some Arc'teryx products. By properly caring for your product, you can restore its functionality

Ikebukuro is a key transportation hub connecting the city and mountain areas, and for many people it is both the starting point for their journey to the mountains and a stopover point for returning to everyday life.
Products used in the mountains are returned to the city, refurbished, and then set off again for the next field. ReBIRD™ functions as a hub that supports this cycle.

Care is aesthetics - a design concept based on continued use

ReBIRD™ is not just about the ethics of environmental consideration. It is about seeing "care" as an aesthetic.
Using products for longer is not a passing trend, but an extension of Arc'teryx's consistent design philosophy. ReBIRD™ is also a cultural program designed to help people experience this change in values in their daily lives.

ReBIRD™ services are available exclusively to members of Arc'teryx's membership program, BIRD CLUB.
BIRD CLUB is a program that allows customers to continually connect with the brand through product purchases, event participation, and field experiences. The experiences and data gained through these programs are fed back into the development of next-generation products, creating an ecosystem where customer experience and manufacturing circulate continuously.

"We design for circularity."
Through ReBIRD™, Arc'teryx continues to challenge itself to circularize the future of its products.
